Of all the topics that come up regularly on Slashdot, this is certainly the least productive. I doubt that anyone is interested in hearing anything other than their own comfortable beliefs. For those that don't mind being challenged, here is a discussion from a radio program called The White Horse Inn entitled "How Can I Believe in Creation when Evolution is a Scientific Fact?" I expect it should make everyone unhappy, but perhaps it will make some on this forum rethink their positions - at least about Christians if not on the evolution/creation debate.

For those who might be interested in the differences between the various creation theories in the Christian community, there is also part 1 and part 2 of a debate on the subject.

All three are RealAudio, about 25 minutes long.

Basically, you're paying 10 bucks to have every game be available in english, spanish, and french with either the home or visiting broadcaster. In many cases, these options were available before. I don't think its worth it, but as a Yankee fan in Ohio I don't have much of a choice and I'll pay it.

The video highlight service they describe is completely different. It sounds as though that is what you need GoldPass (and therefore non-free RealPlayer) for. Also, it won't even launch until May and promises to give you access to every pitch of every game throughout the season. That seems like a pretty powerful tool, although when it comes through RealPooper software who knows what it will be like.

They also have a link to a RealVideo Clip which was obviously filmed on a camcorder but manages to catch quite a bit of the debris fly-over.

For those of you arguing about microgravity: A tidbit from the video (I'm listening to /watching it, as I type this) Gravity on Eros appears to be 1/1000th of earth Gravity. You might as well have some real stats.

AMZN is not the only one doing this. Personally, I do not have a problem with it -- done in the bricks and mortar world more than most people realize. However, I am interested in the tech. NetPerceptions is arguably the market leader with their GroupLens technology. ZDNet has a good explanation/review of this technology and here is an ABCNews video (realvideo) reporting the technology. Essentially the application learns your likes/dislikes of products/services (my profile) so that products/services based on these likes/dislikes are recommended to you. Moreover, and this is the part I find fascinating, information is pulled from demographic data/others who have similar likes/dislikes of the same products/services I purchase and very different products/services are recommended. For instance, maybe The Godfather is my favorite movie and, therefore, there is a 90% likelihood that I would like cigars. The site would actively present the sale of cigars to me.
AMZN actively pricing its product based on a specific user and his/her profile is part of this technology --- your profile also dictates prices (higher or lower). Incidentially, other companies with such technology/recommendation engines include: BroadVision, Art Technology Group (ATG), Vignette...

This story (RealAudio required) played today on KCRW's "Deadline Hollywood" radio news It was written by Charles Fleming and contains the usual inacuracies regarding DeCSS.

Although it pretty much hits the mark on how unpopular the MPAA is as a result of the lawsuit, and has a wry opinion that the "genie is out of the bottle", it uses the traditional (and incorrect) "decss lets you pirate dvds" rather than "decess is about playback control" framework for the issue.

Some Quotes:

...deCSS is to the dvd movie what mp3 is to recorded music. It enables the home consumer to copy, reproduce and trade movies downloaded over the Internet. Downloaded for Free.

These superhighway holdup men [Corley, et al]... may have legal protection. The studios argue that descrambling constitutes copyright theft. The other side will argue that descrambling allows consumers to make copies of dvds they already own and trade them with friends, which constitutes legal 'fair use.'

Someone out there wanna help convince them that they should tell the real story of what this case is about?
