Re:All about control (Right, but not that easy)
Everythign you said is insightful and logical. The only problem is the "old boy's network"... you still need to be an insider to get anything done. There's payola to overcome and marketing would be a huge hurdle as well.
Here's an excerpt from the San Jose Mercury News article, "Why commerce is killing the true spirit of hip-hop" by Davey D 03/2007. The original article is gone from the Mercury's website and not in their archives for some reason. (tin-foil-hat)
In our conversation, Porter [Paul Porter former music programmer for BET] also pointed to something more sinister: payola. He claimed hip-hop is dead only because payola is rampant at labels intent on investing in songs with sexual and violent themes. During a separate conversation, Questlove of the Roots supported Porter's allegation with his own story about the process behind the group's Grammy-winning hit with Erykah Badu, ``You Got Me.'' He said the Roots had to pony up close to ``a million dollars'' to a middle man who ``worked his magic'' at radio stations. -
Re:I hope Slashdot makes it into the "silver packa
Thus keeping you away from the "lefty political blogs".
At first thought that's something phone companies wouldn't care about, but big media companies with intimate ties to people in power do suppress unwanted opinions. -
Re:New weapons for protest suppresion
These freaks who are out there slinging rocks and Molotov cocktails are not protesters, they're thugs.
those thugs are "agent provocateurs" deliberately planted to give the authorities the opportunity to claim that the protest isn't peacefull. What do think the real fuss is about over that server seizure then??? the servers were hosting photos of undercover policemen... evidence of the agent provocatuer policy
Then, on Oct. 1, the FBI paid a visit to an Indymedia representative in Seattle on behalf of the Swiss government. The Swiss were upset that IMC had published pictures of undercover agents posing as anti-globalization protesters.

Re:Patents and Copyright ...
In a hundred years, historians will have very little to work with, because people are sitting on Copyrighted material, like it's gold.
How copyright could be killing culture -
Re:Not the Republicans, but certainly the Neo-cons
As my brother said at Thanksgiving, "I want my party back!"
Republicans aren't what they used to be.
GWB puts shame on the whole party.
I don't know what is worse, that he is acting as if he has a mandate when he just barely one, and some are even contesting the legitimacy of the election, or that the media doesn't seem to be questioning this.
Politicians have always been scumbags, but while they used to be wallowing in a Cesspool scumbags, now they are wallowing in a septic tank scumbags.
Think about it. Compared to what is happening today, was I really that bad of a President?
Republican and Democrat politicians are scumbags. The media are a bunch of scumbags. The people, well I guess the people are just stupid, or at least deluded. But there are a few good, and smart people here and there, and you can't tell who they based soley on if they are a Republican or a Democrat.
I think the Democrats want their party back too. -
Re:Not suprising.
No, twit, it's NPR listeners.

Re:The chairman should know
Scotty be damned! If anyone can change the laws of physics through sheer will-to-power, its Michael Powell.
