For what is worth ...
I came across a resurrected page from the now defunct geocities - http://www.reocities.com/CapeCanaveral/Galaxy/8152/plight.html - an article from 1997
There were (at that time) two brothers - Steve and Chris Brusatte - who were so interested in the field of Paleontology that they poured over 70 books just to satisfy their curiousity
That articles was dated 1997, some 16 years ago, and I hope that the brothers do grow up to be paleontologists, as what they had wanted to be

Re:Geocities
The original was cruelly taken from us in 2009, but mirrors for much of the content still exists. See, e.g., Reocities. The Internet Archive was one of the organizations that attempted to save the content for posterity. Why? Because even though there was a lot of dreck, much of the content was interesting, and original. It also only existed on Geocities (e.g. Killing King Abacus, which now also exists elsewhere).
And even the dreck was worth saving. For the same reason that the Library of Congress is archiving Twitter. Because historians can use this to examine our time.
Yes, Geocities allowed many (including myself) to put up a website without any knowledge of good design or taste. However, without this free webspace, allowing me (and others) to express myself (themselves), I might have instead gone and shot up my school or something. Which would you prefer?
(Geocities still exists in Japan. However, Yahoo Japan is basically independent of the rest of Yahoo, so that shouldn't be a surprise.)

Re:Oldest torrent on TPB isn't porn?
Check here, first. Assuming you know the old URL.
Reocities has a handy neighborhood listing in their archives.

Re:CGI
I think you're thinking of DS9, which switched to CGI later in its run. TNG didn't use CGI much, if any.
If you count 2D animation, TNG used a lot of CGI. Their compositing and animation was mostly done with DFX Paint FX and a Quantel Harry.
They didn't use so much 3D stuff, but a couple notable examples were the Crystalline Entity and Tin Man. I'm also pretty sure the flight squad trainers in The First Duty were CG.
More interesting stuff here:

Re:BT are crap.
As an editor, I am for ever asking authors not to write "Microsoft are doing..." because I prefer to see organizations referred to as single things - distinct from their employees, directors, shareholders, etc.
Well you're wrong, you arsehole. http://www.reocities.com/tonydays/styleguide/singular.htm

How did you cope?
I would like to know how you imploded and how did you cope? Did any health problems creep up on you like RSI or carpal syndrome?
I feel as if I am on a treadmill (the prisoner of hype is so true!) that won't ever stop or get easier. My knowledge may be obsolete in so many years time but not my skills or experience. Humans generally like stability, curiosity and exploration. Unfortunately we all jump from one technology to another without really thinking about it.

Re:Er, what?
The code linked the American way of life directly with free market capitalism, and prohibited all mention of drug use, even in an negative light, so one of the first cases of a mainstream comic not receiving the code seal was basically that it mentioned "Heroin is bad for you kids, so don't do it, m-kay?" It proved far easier for the code authorities to say "America doesn't have a drug problem, so don't talk about it in comics, at all", than to allow anti-drug messages.
Although you mention some points that are nearly word-for-word accurate, you are inaccurate to the point of disbelief regarding capitalism (with or without the superfluous "free market" qualifier). It is not mentioned in any linked-to version of the code (starting at wikipedia's page on the subject):
I suspected you were full of shit when you used the phrase "free market capitalism". Only a small percentage of people understand those words individually or together. Your further writing on the drug issue and America implies you are not one of them.
What was your basis for this statement: "The code linked the American way of life directly with free market capitalism...". Nowhere in the code is this suggested. Nowhere. Why would you lie like this? What is your motivation?
My guess is that you are amongst those "bent on agrandizing themselves and their political viewpoint".

Robert W. Bussard's Letter to CongressOne of the co-founders of the ITER program (when it was starting as the Tokamak program under the Atomic Energy Commission) wrote a letter to Congress before he died, detailing why the ITER program should be canceled and replaced with a series of prize awards.

Re:perfect example: Geocities
Perhaps because others were doing it. A number of independent projects tried to back up Geocities, and may have between them recovered most of the data.
