Re:A slashdot favorite!
Well at least eventually attributed Rock Paper Scissors Spock Lizard correctly. All Hail Sam Kass!

Is it Spock or paper?
How do these banknotes fit into the rules of Rock Paper Scissors Spock Lizard?

Re:No shit
As soon as non-geeks get their hands on geek culture it leaves a horrible taste in the mouth.
This is one of the reasons I'm not a big fan of Big Bang Theory. They seem to have taken as much geekiness as they could and crammed it into a series. In the process they not only turned geekiness into a farcical mockery but have also co-opted such things as Rock Paper Scissors Lizard Spock making people think that the show's stars/creators came up with the idea when in reality is predates it by at least a decade: http://www.samkass.com/theories/RPSSL.html. I can personally say that I remember reading about it several years ago.

Re:Hmm!
Do you know what destroys rocks?
Paper covers rock. Spock vaporizes rock.

Re:Where have I heard this before? Oh yeah...
Do they write any material themselves?

Re:Rock, Scissors, Paper
Not all variations suck.
Live long, and prosper. Unless you pick scissors, in which case be crushed! -
Re:Roshambo
See my previous comment about Rock/Paper/Scissors/Lizard/Spock
Imagine having a game with 5 classes, each very strong against 2 other classes and similarly weak against the 2 other. Yes, in 1v1 PvP that would be complete trash but 3v3, 4v4 or 5v5 would without a doubt be fairly interesting.
Add to that the ability to have 2 skill threes for each class so you could build a character that was a little Rock and a little Scissor, making it less weak against Paper and Spock than Rock alone, but at the same time making it somewhat weaker against Scissors and Lizard. Get a three man team going consisting of a Spock, a Lizard and a Scissor and have a strategic teamskill-fest in battlegrounds!

Re:Roshambo
Or what about Rock/Paper/Scissors/Lizard/Spock? If that isn't pretty much the perfect basic balance of any PvP type game, I don't know what is.

Re:You're playing an incomplete game!
A guide for the uninitiated:
http://www.samkass.com/theories/RPSSL.html
Google it and you'll find a link to a clip from an episode of the Big Bang Theory that features RPSSL. Essential viewing.

Re:It's Open Source
I think this is an example of how the GPU is much more suited for image analysis. I'd be very interested in exactly how this was managed on a XO! I have an 8 year old mac running at 733MHz, but it has a 9800 ATI which allows it to do real time image effects with my webcam while also only using about 60% cpu. See http://www.samkass.com/blog/page4/page4.html for some examples of what one person has done using webcams. Its using the Quartz Composer from apple developer tools. Edit: I found out about the XO: http://eclecti.cc/olpc/pixel-perfect-collision-between-real-and-virtual-objects Seems its' just really efficient code!

Re:Thank God we still have
or, failing that, we have rock-paper-scissors-spock-lizard
-
I'll roshambo you for it!
Rock / Paper / Scissors / Spock / Lizard is properly "law of fives" compliant.
-
Confusion to the enemy!
You dope! We're geeks here! We settle things with Rock, Paper, Scissors, Spock, Lizard!!!
-
Proper protocol?
This being the FCC, shouldn't their Roshambo protocol be "Rock,Paper,Scissors,Lizard,Spock"?
