    The point for me is PDF.

    PDF viewers do not trust that PDFs are "safe". opening a PDF in a PDF viewer isn't opening a "Safe File", it's opening an "Unsafe File" in a safe application.

    Safe applications could be registered EXPLICITLY as handlers for "Unsaf Files".

    For now, Schubert|it's PDF Browser plugin seems to be the best workaround.

    The solution would be a "WebServices" counterpart to "LaunchServices", for handlers of "Unsafe Files", and Safari could remove the "Open Safe Files" option completely.

    There's a great plugin for Mac at http://www.schubert-it.com/pluginpdf. Much less overhead than Acrobat.

    To remove the PDFMaker for Mac Office 2004 simply trash the files located at:
    /Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Office/Startup/Excel/PDFMaker.xla
    /Applicati ons/Microsoft Office 2004/Office/Startup/PowerPoint/PDFMaker.ppa
    /Appl ications/Microsoft Office 2004/Office/Startup/Word/PDFMaker.dot
    As far as the stupid PDF viewer in Safari, trash the Adobe-related files (you'll know them when you seen them) located at:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
    If you want to view PDFs within Safari go and download the "PDF Browser Plugin" (free for personal use):

    Schubert's pdf plugin for Mac OS X. Plays with all browsers, simple to install and fully featured.

    Edxor is my notepad replacement on any Windows install.

    Vektor 3 sports a game analysis feature - it's not exactly what you'ree looking for but maybe it could still be a useful thing for learning better chess.

    Anyway, it's probably the best-looking chess software ever and always a pleasure to use.

    I recommend everybody to install this free PDF browser plugin. Click a pdf and it's displayed in the browser window. It's faster than both Preview (10.2) and Acrobat. So fast, in fact, that I now regularly read PDFs in the browser :-)
