Re:I know this is basically redundant whinging...
If you want coop try Serious Sam, First and Second Encounters. It's a fun shooter in the original Doom mode: lots of enemies and fast paced.

Cooperative play games are the answer.
My sweeite enjoys games only when we can play together against a common foe. For example;Serious Sam and Age of Empires">Age of Empires, Diablo, Starcraft, Etc.
All allow you to play cooperatively against a computer foe. Fixes the gamer itch and makes for some good bonding time. "Hey, stop shooting at me!" ;) xxoo -
Re:It has revolutionized landscaping
A reference to Serious Sam?

Re:Why Doom Sucks.Have you ever noticed that all the worlds these games take place in our DARK, DANK, and DYSTOPIAN??
I have several responses:
Smartass: Are you saying it's more like real life in my windowless office pods, living under the marketing office?
Smarmy: How about Serious Sam? I almost got sun blindness looking at the Pyramids.
Patronizing (that's when someone talks down to you with simple words): It's just a game. Chill. Go outisde and play with your little neighborhood friends. No one ever died going, "I wish my games had been better..."
Serious: Okay, I do agree that a lot of FPRs are dark and depressing. So are a lot of sci-fi films. I was told it's a trick so you can use less pixels (or in films, work in a smaller studio).

Re:Fear over action - not the Doom I remember
I don't know about the rest of you but for me Doom was the action orientated gameplay, where for example often you had to take on over a dozen imps with a mere shotgun. It would be great to relive that experience all over again in a 3D fully environment powered by a cutting engine.
Have you tried Serious Sam? It sounds like just what you're looking for; arcade style action galore. -
[OT] Serious Sam SE Uses Ogg
Slightly offtopic, but I noticed that Serious Sam Second Encounter uses Ogg Vorbis - I found that cool. I hope more game developers start using Ogg. Way to go Croteam! Ranjit.

Re:Way to go
Game developers are starting to using OGG, since they dont have to pay the costs for development kits, (And they are major opensource and computer hackers...)
Also Serious Sam plays OGG in game, go download the Serious Sam 2 demo..
I picked up a soundblaster audrey, and It comes with a dvd audio player. Now 5.1 dvd .ac3 audio rocks. Dont know if OGG supports it, but .ac3 rocks over .mp3. -
Re:AIness, SPACEness, HELPless, ;)
You might enjoy Serious Sam. It's got a bit of that good ol' Duke Nukem one-liner style.

Re:Open Source 3D engine
I hope the engine engine is capable of rendering something other than the dark, boring environments seen in the screenshots on the site.
Game designers could really learn a thing or two by playing Serious Sam. Look at all those bright environments and colorful characters! Yowza! -
Re:They should just put it out as a Q3A levelHell yes.
The Unreal engine and their tech demo (a few months old now) whips the pants off anything Quake3 can do. Lately i've been impressed by the data you can give bots. Even Croteam is better than Q3A - I hope ID gets it together for Wolfenstein.
