Imagine a true peer-to-peer Web built on something like this.

Imagine, for instance, posting blog or wiki posts as little paragraphs of text, each as a separate file, not uploaded to a 'server' but just put out onto the grid. Cache every chunk of data as it moves through servers, maybe have a name-resolution layer like DNS over the top so that one server is 'authoritative' for your blog posts, but that server doesn't need to be online all the time as long as another one has replicated the data. Add a language which allows transclusion of chunks and/or functional manipulation of them, so you don't have to use messy AJAX tricks which bust the caches.

We could get a few steps closer toward Xanadu.

I want to say that Orielly gives back to the community.

What few people might try and break this would be out numbered by the number of people that would pay for this sort of thing.
The number of people that would be beniftied by this would be great. Schools would have highspeed access, kids who wouldnt have access otherwise.
And yes it is possible to do long range point to point, but then you have to hook it up to each computer.There inlies your real cost, your real reason for having a DMZ on an 802.11 network.

This is a great idea and I forone am going to go out there with my laptop as soon as I get my new lucent 802.11 card.

I think QTVR is a good way to do it.

Just use hot spots to link different movies together. QTVR isnt open but its the best option to do it with out using some hand written java applet. I am also partial to never using java for anything... Any one else?

One thing I really like about the open source movement is that never ceases to make me happy.

This is a great example of community acting in a fun and open way.

Not for greed, but because its fun.
A sense of community that I don't see in the rest of my life (Where I live, where I work).

First of all HTML is a mark up, not a scripting language.

Second, web designers dont need wysiwyg, they need a WEB BROWSER!

Nothing else is that important. A good editor will tell me if the code works in this or that, but a great editor would also let me see what it looks like.
I dont understand why I cant have web browsers in linux that dont suck. Opera is the exception. But even opera sucks compaired to IE.

I live in the Sf area and I have seen these peices of art. They do not come off easily, I tried. But I like this idea. I like cult advertising. Apple started it and they took all their cues from The Church of Scientology.
