Re: The world we live in.
1 in 5 women will get sexually assaulted in her life time.
1 in 5 homes will not get burglarized in their entire existence.
No one* is teaching boys it's ok to harass and rape. Just like no one says "you didn't lock your doors enough" when a house is burgled.
Blurred Lines hit #1 on the pop charts. The repeated stories about guys who get away with rape even after it's been reported and there's solid evidence for it. Guys like MMA star War Machine(God help me, that's his legal name) telling people that his ex-GF is his property.
There's all sorts of cultural influences telling men that they're entitled to women's bodies. In essence, we're teaching our children that rape is OK. It's called Rape Culture.
And yes, there's all sorts of antisemitic influences in our culture. Including saying someone "Jewed" you out of money. But that's another rant.

Re:forever actually
First, and most importantly, you are attacking a straw man. That's not what "rape culture" means.
Second, look at any recent major media news coverage of a rape. You'll find plenty of worry about the careers of the rapists or how they were such nice people along with plenty of victim blaming.
Furthermore, when you call an act "rape", people will think it's horrible, but if you don't use the word, you'll get much weaker reactions. This study simply did a survey where they asked people if they had committed a rape without using the word "rape" and got plenty of yes answers.

Re:Female programmers
I've never seen anyone actually use "womyn" except when insulting feminists, claim women can't be sexist, or claim that all men are rapists (which I assume is a reference to this). I'm not sure what feminists you've been reading, but may I recommend some different ones? The whole Shakesville feminism 101 is worth reading, albeit quite long, so instead I'll point you to a specific essay On Feminists Being Alleged Man-Haters. There's a tag devoted to feminism addressing things that are bad for men too labeled Patriarchy Ain't a Picnic for Men Either.

Re:doesn't help people take games seriously either
I actually have no problem with equality so long as it is actually equal. The sort of feminism on display here is becoming much more mainstream and that is scary stuff.

Please read this article and thread and get some perspective.

Re:Am I getting old?
Does it make me a victim of comic book culture if I don't give a flying fsck what you (especially as an anonymous coward) has to say?
This politically correct, anything you might say and probably didn't except in the minds of the liberally twisted, life has meaning only if I am outraged about some BS that I perceive as an outrageous insult to a minority I am probably not a member of but know what is best for world that I find myself in these days is insulting.
That this story has turned into some thread more suitable to a paranoid men hating rant to be found in places like Shakesville is just another sign of the death of /.
Please do not report me to the punctuation/grammar purists as they are busy enough.
Maybe you could find some like minded, hairy legged, overall wearing, men haters with mod points and trash my karma publicly. That'll learn me. -
Re:Am I getting old?The whole thing made a huge splash in the feminist blogosphere when it happened. Didn't you get the memo?
[Trigger warning for rape used in a "humorous" capacity.] The problem is, I just don't find rape funny. Because rape survivors exist among us, and after being victimized by rapists, they are revictimized by a society that treats even real rape like a joke, forced to live in a culture that actually has a lot of rape jokes, including those about rape victims being actively denied justice for no other reason than because people don't take rape seriously. I don't find rape funny because rape victims are often doubted, mocked, and insulted openly.
[Trigger warning for discussion of sexual assault in games and comedy and sexual slavery] Mere sexist jokes have been documented to âoefavour the mental mechanisms which urge to violence and battering against womenâ, in other words, make people more accepting of such behaviour. The release of endorphins gets linked to the sexist ideal, and suddenly it seems a good idea.
If the good people are on one side of the argument, and you're on the other side, isn't that a clue that YOU'RE WRONG? The appropriate response is a self-criticism, an essay on exactly what you did wrong and how you'll never do it again, plus paying a fine proportional to your income to a feminist non-profit rape survivors group.
