m l shows very nicely how this thing works. I couldn't get the plug-in to work in Opera and had to use IE instead. Now I feel bad... I have sined... -
Re:Bound to Fail, but for Noteworthy ReasonsNot that I'm entirely disagreeing with your point, but you obviously have not seen a P800 or looked at the specs. It's roughly equvialent to an iPaq or Jornada. And, interestingly enough, there IS in fact a port of Lara Croft Tombraider for the Quartz Symbian platform, specifically written for Ericsson (they had a megadollar tie-in with that movie). It actually looks pretty good - as good as the PC version IMO, albeit with a smaller screen.
So, in theory, the P800 could run ports of various PS2 games without losing that much in play-ability. I could definately envision a slightly scaled down GranTurismo that you could play against another P800 via bluetooth or even against a PS2 via USB.
From this article though, I think that they are very much thinking baby-steps: using the phone as strictly a memory device with the primary benefit of linking the SonyEricsson mobile phone with the popular Sony PS2 brand in the consumer conciousness.

Re:This will never flyI don't see how any of the game system manufacturers would approve of this.
From the original article...
My inbox is constantly full of e-mail from the participants in the experts groups just banging away on the specification because they understand its importance. So along with Sun, we have companies participating like Sony Computer Entertainment...
It sounds like Sony (developer of the PS2) is interested after all. Perhaps it's for their games consoles, perhaps it's for their cell phones, perhaps it's all hype, but they do seem interested.

And SonyEricsson P800
Another Symbian OS phone with GPRS, MMS, Java MIDP, and a digital camera - but this one is tri-band so works in the US!

Re SONY : phone + email + MP3 + colour screen +CAM
I don't believe the Nokia plays MP3's. Besides that, Sony Ericsson's new phone (the P800) has all of these features and runs the same OS as that Nokia phone. Plus, it has some nice little features like a jog dial (which is so useful if you've used a PDA).
