    Agreed, upvote, "like", disseminate widely.
One can only claim to be "apolitical" if one exists in the upper reaches of unassailable privilege.

  3. I call BS on IE Standardization Fading Fast · · Score: 2

Try finding a merchant account with a bank (not a new fangled Web 3.0 deal like Square) that doesn't specifically write their "web" app to specifically *only* work with IE on Windows. There are lots of other examples of extranet "applications" that are written w/ MS libraries that depend on IE .It's frustrating and depressing.

  4. Hepatitis B/C HIV lab on The Absolute Worst Working Environment? · · Score: 1

I had to install some robotics equipment in a contained lab. There was a whole procedure for suiting up (including booties and a puffy hat), many rules about what to do and not do inside and then a whole procedure for leaving (disposal of the suite, scrubbing down, etc.). I had to get a vaccination for HepB, which requires constant updates (and is one of those painful globulin injections). No vaccine for HepC or HIV though obviously.

There was a definite incentive to get the H/W and S/W right because I did not want to have to come back.

  5. Re:Bound to Fail, but for Noteworthy Reasons on Sony SmartPhone To Work With PS2 · · Score: 1
Not that I'm entirely disagreeing with your point, but you obviously have not seen a P800 or looked at the specs. It's roughly equvialent to an iPaq or Jornada. And, interestingly enough, there IS in fact a port of Lara Croft Tombraider for the Quartz Symbian platform, specifically written for Ericsson (they had a megadollar tie-in with that movie). It actually looks pretty good - as good as the PC version IMO, albeit with a smaller screen.

So, in theory, the P800 could run ports of various PS2 games without losing that much in play-ability. I could definately envision a slightly scaled down GranTurismo that you could play against another P800 via bluetooth or even against a PS2 via USB.

From this article though, I think that they are very much thinking baby-steps: using the phone as strictly a memory device with the primary benefit of linking the SonyEricsson mobile phone with the popular Sony PS2 brand in the consumer conciousness.

  6. Not True:The Internet changes nothing on The Age of Paine Revisited · · Score: 2, Insightful

I frequent many web forums and I can tell you that there are Thousands of people out there, sharing information, creating websites, building on each others ideas. People, regular folks, with AOL accounts or Roadrunner cablemodems are enabled by the internet to find information and people with common interests.

And I've found or been informed about many very unique and entertaining sites, put up by people in their spare time, who would definately not have bothered to publish a 'zine or even a pamphlet - which wouldn't have made it to my eyes anyway if it were not for the internet.

It's all relative, and maybe for now it's just a start. I don't post to Slashdot very often (or at all) myself. But I was able to read Your thoughts on this subject, wasn't I? (Most of the time I come to the discussion pretty late and any points I would've wanted to contribute have already been made)

Yes, people are Lazy. The cool thing about the 'Net is that it's easy for even lazy people (like me) to put stuff out there for all to see. Even if the majority of that stuff ends up being pointless and dumb, some fraction of it will shine.

Personally, I prefer NSI to register.com. I've used both. Register.com seemed prety easy until I tried to modify things from their default "We'll be your DNS situation". I think next time I'll try joker.com....
