Plan Response
Supercomputer #72, at the Chinese Academy of Science, comes from Lenovo. I wonder how far ahead IBM's sale of its "PC" business to Lenovo has put China's computing industry. And I wonder just what kinds of simulations they actually run on the beast.

Some guys in Spain (http://www.sorgonet.com/torderawireless/nodo1mej

Easier and cheaper solution for liquid cooling
Check TorderaWireless.
Although the main purpose of these people is keeping water out of the case, they built a case submerged in oil, and it must work for cooling, because oil can reach 150C without boiling, at least.

As far as ease of configuring the GUI goes,
you can easily setup the latest newfangled $350 video card in Windows, but to do so on Linux requires (1)decent drivers and (2) knowledge of the XFree86 conf file. ATI has the opportunity to really push Nvidia out of the arena by offering a ncurses-based and X-based config tool for owners of their graphics cards, since the closest thing on the Nvidia side is NVOption, which works, but is currently in it's infancy as it can't help you setup an X config file from scratch for a new configuration. Again, you don't have this problem on Windows, even though the Windows video card config tool can be quirky sometimes.

Try a mini-distro first
You could try a "one-disk" distro first, you don't have to partition your hard disk, just boot from a floppy and play a bit. A list of mini-distributions to download is Here
