Re:Drivers for Creative Labs Dxr3 kit for Windows
Creative's driver page says the Dxr3 drivers just added "Support for single processor x86 Windows NT4.0 (English language)." Looks like your multiprocessor system could be the culprit.
I've been running the dxr3 card under NT with no problems whatsoever for the past few months... I have a SB Live! Value, TNT2, and Encore Dxr3.

the buzzing of the mouse on your sound card
The buzzing you're hearing is from the video card. There is tons of noise going on inside your computer video cards typically produce a good amount's worth. As the video card has to redraw the position of the mouse on the display, the extra work by the vid. card is picked up as radiation by the sound card and affects the output on the sound card. I'm no genius so I don't quite know how to explain it properly, but I do know that the video is the culprit.
Most people with project studios seeking to get the most out of their sound cards while keeping a relatively low noise floor typically move the sound card and video card as physically far apart as they can. Usually the sound car is placed at the bottom of the machine and the vid. card near the power supply. I remember older modems I'd purchase making the same suggestion and I imagine it's for the same reason.
Creative Labs cards aren't very good at keeping their noise clean, that's why they're not considered much of a project card. Turtle Beach cards are pretty good at keeping their sound clean and you could get a montego for relatively cheap, a a new project studio version of the montego has come out for $349 that will do optical/analog S/PDIF digital output to your stereo (if you're really worried about noise and want a complete gaming experience) as well as support for quad speakers. -
Re:That's along the lines of something I'd like to
I know one of the SoundBlaster AWE64 Gold cards has a SPDIF connector. That would eliminate a lot of the noise! Of course your equipment has to accept it. It would be great for converting mp3's to DAT!
I did get this cheap all-in-one pentium motherboard (PcChips I think) which has an SPDIF input from the CD-rom but the sound was somewhat distorted.. maybe it was in the wrong format or something. Not like I could hear any difference between pure digital and an analog cable with those cheap computer speakers. -
Er "changing the sdk"...?
From my understanding of what Unified does, it is *NOT* Yet Another Glide Library, but instead merely maps the calls that a game would send to Glide into calls to Direct3d. This type of interface can be derived from the docs of the sdk without having the sdk itself, which implies a cleanroom implementation and absolutely no modification to the Glide SDK itself. (The Unified FAQ is located at http://www.soundblaster.co m/hotgraphics/unified/faq.html for those interested.)

The drivers from Creative should be available soon
It's three weeks already and still
"Linux (Coming Soon)"
What about sending some more feedback to these guys?
I mean, they could at least set up a page with the current status. -
LIne doubler for $300!
In case you didn't know, the Creative DVD kits that run about $200 include line doubling software and composite and S-video outs. Oh AC-3 audio too.
I'm about to get one, to have video out to my TV, but I think it only runs on Win98.

Linux section at http://developer.soundblaster.com
There's a Linux section in developpement at http://developer.soundblaster.com/ for drivers and patches... I don't know if it's there for 6 months...
I hope that they'll release spec of source for the SBLive! full, if not, I think that the driver will always be buggy and I don't think that I'll buy one... I want to buy one, but only when it will be fully supported by Linux... -
