Re:Yep
Have you looked at http://freshmest.net/ or http://sourcefourge.net/ ?
Most modern distributions have a software-repository browser built in. A 'add/remove software' dialog shows all the software available from your Linux Distributor.
Usually, you can add extra repositories (like dag, livna or freshrpms) to get even more pre-packaged software. -
Que : Inherently Parallel Programming
Actually, I've been working on a programming language/model that makes programs inherently parallel. Of course, it is quite different from anything currently in existence. Basically, it uses a queue (hence the name "Que") to store data (like the stack in FORTH), but due to the nature of the queue, programs become inherently parallel. Large programs could have hundreds of processes running at the same time, if so inclined.
If you are interested, check out my project (there's not much there right now), and/or contact me at FMota91 at GMail dot com.

Re:A combination of hardware and software does it
http://easytag.sourcefourge.net/ when you are on Linux or Windows. The complete thread also shows other programmes - but this is my favourite.

Re:I've used palm and I've been very happy...The sync software is terrible (mentioned in the article),
For those of you interested, I'm happily synching the Treo 650 with JPilot over a bluetooth connection to my Laptop running Ubuntu Linux. This article was helpful getting this setup:
http://howto.pilot-link.org/bluesync/fb.html
The keyring software I run to securely store passwords also happily syncs with Jpilot.

KHTML on Windows has been around for some time
KHTML can already run on Windows, thanks to KDE-Cygwin. It's pretty easy to set up, and allows you to run stand-alone apps such as Konqueror on a Windows box. Quite a bit easier and faster than dual-booting.

Re:What's the point of MP3 players?

What makes you say that? AFAIK, no one can make the format illegal/expensive to use, the only area of influence is in the codecs. So we may not have integrated-with-OS apps for ripping mp3, but we will still have open source alternatives for encoding.
am I missing something? -
What is so restrictive about LGPL?

if sourceforge.net is slashdotted, then try sourcefourge.net. It took me 2 weeks figuring out that i typed it wrong

Re:Carmac is *NOT* an OSS developer
Last time I looked Carmack was one of the main developers on the utah-glx project. I believe that he's been involved in bringing GLX support to Linux, writing an X server for MacOS X and releasing games under the GPL.
Wolfenstein, Doom and Quake 1 are all released under the GPL.

TiK supports emoticons :-)
Give TiK a try. It works on all Linux/*NIX/BSD machines running tk/tcl.
'nuff said. ;-)
