spammotel
I tink spammotel gives you a better service...
in 2 words, spammotel is a simple service that lets you create all the emails you want, and all these fake-email will be forwarded to your real-mailbox.
the fake-mail will look something like this: ABCDEFGHIJKL@spammotel.com for example... you register to a service with spammotel-email, then decide it is not what you were looking for, and you just delete your spammotel-email, so you don't leave any trace, and you don't have to worry of spam... when a mail gets spam, you delete it and create a new one... easy.
the only problem is that you can't send mail with the spammotel account... well, unless you configure a bit your mail client or send mailk with some "anonimous" service on the web, which permits to specify the sender... -
Re:Another spin on that theme
Or try Spam Motel for disposable addresses - for free. This way you can set up tons of different addresses to all point to your actual address. If one of them sells you out - disable it and you're home safe.
Works for me. -
Do unto others as.....This Site contains an e-mail Form system you can use to express to Gain exactly how you feel.
Use of something like Spam Motel highly recomended.
If you prefer another method of sharing your feelings. By all means SnailMail: GAIN Publishing, Inc. 2000 Bridge Parkway, Suite 100 Redwood City, CA 94065.
Their Fax Number is plainly listed as: 650-232-0400
For people in Redwood City, CA they even provide a MAP of their location -
Re:whitelisting for websites
I haven't used SpamGourmet, but I do use SpamMotel pretty regularly. I've been very happy with them so far, I used them with an account that gets no spam to date, and no new spam has shown up after signing up with them. If SpamGourmet makes you nervous, my personal experience with SpamMotel has been absolutely flawless.

Re:Privacy and such...
Of course, the average windows user does not have his or her own domain, but I think services like Emailias, Sneakemail, SpamEx or SpamMotel are in principle suited for the masses. It's true that they are not very known, and most people seem to take it for granted that one has a limited and relatively small number of e-mail addresses, the idea to create a new address for every new contact (with a few mouse clicks) seems strange to them. I think that can change when mainstream e-mail providers (Hotmail, AOL, GMX etc) offer disposable e-mail addresses.
So, if they are serious about preventing spamming, these large mainstream mail providers should acquire a few hundred domains and let people create additional addresses for their existing accounts in an easy way on the web interface. That would be relatively easy to do. -
Re:Sure it's promising
Well, as the man says in the article:
The Achilles heel of the spammers is their message. They can circumvent any other barrier you set up. They have so far, at least. But they have to deliver their message, whatever it is. If we can write software that recognizes their messages, there is no way they can get around that.
And I think that in this he is correct, almost even provably correct. That's theory, however. In practice no system, short of "real" AI, will be good enough to always recognize spam with a zero false positive rate. It may eventually be good enough, but it won't be perfect. Natural language is just too hard to parse in this way.
But don't despair. If it flunks, there's always spammotel and their likes. -
Spam? Not here...
Rather than filtering incoming mails and taking the legal route with the spammers, I'd like to remind you 2 excellent services that can be used to avoid getiing your email address on spammers' list in the first place: www.spammotel.com and sneakemail.com
If you run your own mail server you can do this stuff yourself - I mean "one-time acounts" and so on. But sneakemail is just too convenient (or I'm too lazy and tired by the time I get home...) -
Re:Junkbuster
The Ad-Zapper for squid works also fine, and if you're what the slashdot users usually pretend to be, you should run squid, not junkbuster.
;)
Also, for spam in general, or rather against it, SpamMotel and especially SneakEmail work like a charm; SneakEmail even lets you reply to (suspected) spammers without revealing your real address.
Of course, if you have your own domain/MX and mail server, you can generate these "one-time" email addresses yourself - but using sneakemail is just too easy and convenient. -
Re:Why hasn't SpamCop been mentioned?
Spam Motel is nice too. Everytime I need to use my email address, I go to spammotel, create a new address with some description of who I'm giving information too. When I get spam, I can see who sold my email address then go back into spammotel and delete that address.

Re:Sneakemail
SpamMotel is similar.
