I was a 3C0X1 too! Of course, I got stuck on a DECSystem10 (this was in '95), but it could have been worse. One of my classmates from techschool went on to be a switchboard operator.
I was fairly computer illiterate when I went in. I knew the basics of DOS and some UNIX, but other than that, nothing. I actually learned a lot in my four years, after the DEC10 kicked it, I was moved into an Oracle DBA position then to a UNIX admin spot. I think a lot of it has to do with where you get stationed and what you get assigned to when you get there.

DC101 in the MD/DC/VA area plays decent music
Umm, are you listening to the same DC101 I am? They play ONE Carbon Leaf song and I have yet to hear Welbilt actually played on the radio. I was listening to their webcast crap for a few days and they play the same songs at the same times every. single. day. Yuck. "Wow, there's Nickelback, must be lunch time." ick ick ick.
The only time they played good music was when "Spineless" (the guy in the washpost article) was out of town and the morning DJ played what HE wanted.
The Clear Channel 70s station sucks too. There's more to the 70s than Fleetwood Mac! Honest!
One thing that's always annoyed me about the anti-abortion position is that so few of the believers have the courage of their convictions. The pro-life movement doesn't talk much about scenarios like these, although you'll see a few folks who are willing to stand up and say these girls must carry the child to term no matter how bad it messes her up. The rest hide behind "except in cases of rape and incest" phrases as if people born of rape are somehow less human than those of us conceived out of love.
The thing that annoys me is that the anti-abortion side never seems to care about the child AFTER it's born. We hear daily stories of children starving, children whose parents torture them to death, children left to broil in hot cars. Where's the protests about that? Where's the website with the parents' names crossed out? How many of THEM have adopted an unwanted crack baby?
These people want women to be forced to carry and give birth to unwanted children. It's PUNISHMENT.
My coworker on the other side of the cubicle wall drives me insane. His wife will call his desk phone, we have caller ID so he knows it's her and he won't pick up. She'll call his cell phone and he will let it ring and ring and ring until she hangs up. Then she calls the desk phone again. All. Damn. Day. One day, that phone is going to get shoved somewhere it doesn't belong.
I mean for fsck's sake. A little common courtesy people. And the Cutesy Songy Ringtones get annoying after the 20th time in an hour.
I sent a letter to blizzard yesterday, and I'd post it here, but Lotus Notes (ew) seems to have eaten my saved copy.
Basically, I told them that I will never buy another Blizzard game again. We have legit copies of every Blizzard game for each machine(three). I had never heard of bnetd before yesterday, I most likely never would have. I play on battle.net. But my bitch is...Blizzard is screeching that bnetd violates the DMCA. Oh the horrors. They allow people to PLAY the game without being on battle.net. But is Blizzard doing ANYTHING to combat the dupes and hacks and cheats on their supposedly SECURE servers? No. Aren't those circumventing security measures?
As far as CD Keys, does anyone REALLY think this is about piracy? Did we forget this?
(iv) that, if permitted by local law, Blizzard has the right to obtain "non-personal" data from your Internet browsing software in order to make certain demographic assumptions regarding the users of Battle.net without any further notice to you.
From their ToS .
I never thought I'd say this, but, I'd rather pay monthly for DAoC than ever play another blizzard game.
I think I've whored this on/. before but.. use www.spammotel.com Everytime I need to fill out a form, I go to spammotel, enter a description and it creates an email address like oauektnahg@spammotel.com for me. Then, if I start getting spam to that address A) I know who sold my info B) I can delete that address.
Don't forget the polygraph for higher (TS and up) clearances. Only counter intelligence for people in the military (have you ever tried to over throw our government?), but lifestyle for any civilian (have you ever committed adultery with a chicken while smoking pot?).
I go for my lifestyle next month.:) Should be fun.
Spam Motel is nice too. Everytime I need to use my email address, I go to spammotel, create a new address with some description of who I'm giving information too. When I get spam, I can see who sold my email address then go back into spammotel and delete that address.
I put my supermarket card in my cat's name. We usually pay cash at the grocery store, although I guess I could fill out the "You've been approved for our really high interest and fees card!" application that came addressed to said cat and use that.
The wedding industry is a million times worse than Christmas. One of my "friends" said she registered at Crate and Barrel because they do CASH RETURNS. She plans on returning every gift she gets.
Back on topic...I bet she'd LOVE virtual returns. I, personally, find it incredibly tacky.
At least according to The Washington Post's Frank Ahren.
The Radio Listener says:
Despite yesterday's Internet rumors, Clear Channel has no official list of songs that must be pulled off the air.
According to the article he was retired from the Air Force and working as a civilian at NRO. So is he under civilian law or UCMJ?
"A few months after retiring from the Air Force in August 2000, Regan went back to work at NRO as a employee of defense contractor TRW. His security clearance was reinstated in July, one month before his arrest. "

Someone explain "practically random" to me. I always thought it was either random or not random and there wasn't anything "practically" about it.
That's like "hey, I'm practically pregnant!" You are or you aren't, there's no in between. Right?
Scary. What other stories get killed before we get to see them?
