Re:Cheaper? Nope, this is Sony we're talking about
What you need is a sewing box
Ya, I've got Stanley rolling case where I store all my computer parts, only cost $20, and has plenty of room for all my accessories, tools, and parts. Easily mobile for house calls, plus it has a swivel-out drawer for screws where I can organize all the different little shit that comes with most components these days. I haven't lost a screw since. Highly recommend something similar; plus it sure beats using old parts boxes for storage like most people do...

Re:But...
Be nice. You think a 20 pound goose can't break your arm? Do you think I could break your arm with twenty ounces of steel?
OK, but we're still talking about basic physics, here. A claw hammer masses less than the whole goose, true. However, there is much more concentrated mass in the steel hammer head than in the wing of even the biggest goose.
Not only that, but I'm sure that the velocity of a good hammer swing is higher than the whack of even the angriest goose.
Sheesh. I hope you were joking, but I just couldn't let that go unanswered.

Re:But...
"How's that supposed to work? Do you understand the concepts of mass, velocity, and energy?"

Re:Holy shit, Nasa took this long?
Stanley Tools sells more than a dozen tapes with dual markings (usually in & cm). I bought the 26ft/8m (nominal) more than ten years ago! I needed the inches for light carpentry work, and the cm for model-building.

Re:What I wanna know..
ooh, well if you want a good metal hammer that doesn't kill your arm after working day in and day out, buy one of the stanley antivibe hammers. they've got a tuning fork inside them that absorbs the blow, so your arm doesn't have to. and yes, it works. =)

Re:Progression
Actually hammers have changed quite a bit, you are just overlooking them.
For one, we have "power"-hammers, or Jack Hammers.
Two, even the standard hand hammer has gotten handle upgrade from wood to fiberglass then to graphic core.
Hammers
You're just not a power user of hammers :-)
How about going a different way with it? Nail guys do the same job of hammers for THAT domain, and are use extensively now for "hammer and nail" jobs. etc. etc.
I would venture to say that 95->XP(or other modern windowed OS environments) has actually ungone similiar changes, it just LOOKS the same in single static pictures.

Re:sidecutters
sidecutters are another name for what most people refer to as diagonal shears or dykes
.
which may or may not prove useful in removing the leather pants if no one sent her a set of lockpicks...
