A beverage to go with that omelet
I don't know about a "Slashdot omelet," but I've been enjoying this recipe for Slashdot chai for years now. I haven't been able to find the original comment I copied it from, but to that long-lost Slashdotter who posted the recipe in the first place, thanks for the many cups of spicy chai I've enjoyed.

If this subject interests you, here's a post that got a lot of attention earlier this year: Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus shun HTML, causing the infographic plague.

Copyleft Mascot
What we need to counter this is a way to teach kids (and adults) to look for the Creative Commons "copyleft" symbol so they'll know that whatever they're using is contributing to the progress of arts & science, etc.
How about a Creative Commons Mascot? (OK, so maybe they're not any less mockable than a ferret/weasel, but that was all I could come up with on short notice.) -
Vinyl
Yes, good old vinyl records. A quarter apiece at Goodwill, and they make lovely, sturdy bags or bowls when baked at 200 degrees F.

Another mouse gesture javascript menu
Since the page from the article is slashdotted, here's another example of a gestural menu made with javascript. I did this about 4 years ago, and the pages contain links to some of Xerox's original reserach on the subject for those who are terribly interested.

History behind this concept
This is something that Xerox researched several years ago. If you're really interested in gestural/marking menus, you may find their paper Contextual Animation of Gestural Commands
interesting. I used this as inspiration to build my own DHTML Marking Menu a couple years back (has been updated, should work in Mozilla). Feel free to copy the code if you get a wild hair and want to put one of these things on your own web site.
