Re:just what we need $30+ adapters and powered hub
I'm running mad looking for an HDMI-to-RCA downscaler

Re:Ethernet
DVI/HD Audio to HDMI with audio converter
$200?! There's gotta be a cheaper solution than that, right? At that price, I'd want it to strip out HDCP as well so I don't have to deal with start-up delays for HDCP handshaking.

Re:Ethernet
Um... [tap tap tap]... hello? Ever tried this thing called Google? Amazing what you can find...
Computer monitor with HDMI input
DVI/HD Audio to HDMI with audio converter
You can argue that they aren't TVs but there are devices that are advertised as TVs without tuners designed for use with Cable/Satellite. Here is one (notice the category it's under) -
Re:S-video for SDTV monitors?
You can pick up a $20 video card (it's fun to have 2 video cards anyway)
If it's internal, I've found that the sorts of end users that I deal with aren't willing to learn to open the box to install it, and it won't fit into a notebook computer. Do the video card makers still make AGP video cards (so that people on a pre-2005 PC can upgrade without buying a new PC), and do usable ExpressCard or USB 2.0 video cards even exist?
or you can buy a VGA to S-video converter. I got one for $5 online.
I see scan converters for about $69. Where are you getting $5 for 31 kHz RGB to 15 kHz composite, without specific support in your video card to put composite video on one of the VGA pins?

Re:USB2 tv tuner / DVR please!
It would make more sense to me for the ATV to support standard def output (S-Video) as my HDTV already has a nice Myth box. Now I want to share my Myth content on other TV's in the house. At least one company also thinks it's a good idea.

Re:oh boy oh boy oh boy oh ...
Have you considered VGA over Cat-5?

S-Video to Cat-5
Sound like you need a couple of these bad boys and a spool of Cat-5e. I have a pair that connects my computer in the den to our big, shiny TV in the living room. It's great. We can watch iTMS videos (like Lost) on our TV. We can watch streaming video on our TV. And when our DVD player broke, we used the computer to play the DVDs, too. For me, this also functions as an easy way to plug iTunes into my stereo system. In all, it was totally worth the investment. And no ugly, fire-breathing computer (9 fans, anyone?) in the living room.

Re:Oblig. Xbox 360 Note
Too true, no digital output from the 360. However, you are assuming that you can buy any HDMI cable to hook into a PS3 - I don't believe that fact is supported yet. There could still be a proprietary jack on the PS3, just like the 360. Time will tell!
:) FYI - 3' HDMI cable for $9: http://www.svideo.com/hdmihdmisp3.html -
Re:Pinch Those Pennies! Ouch!
Have you checked out svideo.com for HDMI cables? I don't work for them or anything - just a happy customer. I got a 6' cable that works just fine with my 1080i/720p set and my Toshiba DVD player for less than $20 shipped to my house. Paying extra money for digital cables is stupid beyond belief.

Re:F'ing sucks...
So get an external component switch.
Is digital delivery even important in most cases? Is there a difference that other people notice, because I don't.
We demo software on a box with 3 video cards, and 3 flat panel monitors. These are relatively high quality 19" panels. They all run at 1280x960.
Monitor A has a DVI output, B and C are both regular VGA outs. Looking at all three side by side, I can't see any difference whatsoever. I see no dot-crawl or artifacts on the analog monitors.
Same goes for the home theater setups. I've seen good DVD players hooked up via HDMI, and I've seen them hooked up via Component. It made no noticable difference to me.
So is all this DVI/HDMI thing about finally plugging the analog hole? I want my Component video, or if not that, at least RGBS. Something I can legally capture and timeshift, broadcast flag notwithstanding.
I could say the same thing about TOSlink vs analog. Maybe it's just me, and my eyes and ears are going? -
Hardware, not software
Easy answer is to it the hardware way. Pick up a video to VGA box. Makes it so you computer doesn't even need to be on when playing games.
