Re:List of Games...
In their defense, I don't think art critics allocate a big portion of their lifes to gaming so guessing that no gamers were actually involved in the selection going with successes might have been a save move.
Also a lot of people misunderstand gaming art for gaming themed visual art. It's not that. I personally have my own reservations to the selections, I'd like to have seen some Tale of tales games in there - because those come very close to actually being art in the sense of having no other function other than themselves, their existence.
Also I'm a it disappointed about the NES titles. The NES was a landmark in gaming and they managed to eek out only 4 games? This is where they failed completely I think. 1943? really? No Metroid, no original Mario but 1943?
Well, at least they managed to include the correct Okami & SoC versions.

Never Heard of ICO, Bro?
There are games that are made for artistic purposes, such as The Graveyard. There are other games that are so beautiful, in audio and video, that you can call them art (ICO may be part of this group). There are games like LSD that end up being extremely artistic without actively trying to be such. There's also a small genre of games like Yume Nikki that some may consider art, even though the graphic style of the game is generic, the game itself is like a good novel.

The Path
I'm surprised The Path didn't make the list; it's been getting pretty good reviews lately. It may be short, but I found it to be quite a unique, refreshing experience.
Although, I must admit that I hadn't even heard of, let alone played, half of the games in that list. =|

ah, I guess that isn't my interest
I'm not really interested in making an incrementally better game using current techniques; more into the indie-gaming, art-gaming, and experimental scene in general. Stuff like what these folks are are putting out.
Also I'm not sure what you mean by "only $995". SIGGRAPH is super-expensive as far as conferences go, and it costs $345 for grad students, or $800 for non-students. Most conferences are about $200 for students, $400-$500 for non-students. But then most conferences are also run by non-profit organizations, not for-profit companies trying to ream you.

A company I know
they are working on a few games in where they are integrating what you could call art into games. More experimental than anything. I'm keeping an open eye for when they release their own version of the red riding hood story, the Path.
Tale-of-Tales.com:
The Graveyard
The Endless Forest
Yah, yah, mod me down if you think this is offtopic. Personally I've found their work linked to art the most. I can think of many other games, but for some reason they came up in my head at the moment. -
