Alternatives to Yahoo
Okay, I listed this before and I'll do it again, because...this is important. There are alternatives to yahoo, MS and Google and we need to hold the to a higher standard. Checkout these web mail alternatives

(not encrypted but smaller country + company appeals to me ;-) ) there are others listed in this article:

we need to use alternatives to show there are choices and to make companies aware they need to work in OUR best interests if they want us to use them. -

Empty Statement "We abide by US law", alternatives
Since those on top are either above the law (see Clinton family) or arrange the law/enforcement system so they effectively are, we clearly need a higher standard. Kind of like IBM doing business with Nazi Germany. Sure it was legal; The USA wanted business from Germany, IBM wanted to make money from Germany, it didn't affect us (or so we thought) so we went on ahead with no sense of morality. IBM knew what was going on. It didn't care. Yahoo (and others, yahoo the only one, see reports on Snowden's release papers) also had deals with China leading to the arrest and torture to human rights advocates there (as covered in a Senate hearing). there are outside alternatives Yes, some governments (Sweden, Germany, France I believe) are apparently working with the USA, but at least it's not likely to be accessed as quickly (and it's encrypted). We all have a choice, if we decide to. Let's exercise that ability while we still have it. I believe in the idea "Use it or lose it". Like the election in the USA. Can can STILL vote for Sanders. Yes, you CAN fill in his name on the ballot. It's not necessarily A or B as the two parties would have you believe. We can still choose. Like web mail, we have other choices than the big 3 (Microsoft, Gmail, Yahoo). Time to think outside the boxes put in front us. And to Yahoo, well, didn't have much faith/trust in them before, I have even less now. -
Re:Throw eggs or hand in your hacker pass.
Thing is, you're STILL just projecting. Starting with your implication I'd wish harm on a fly, or calling me a clown ^^

Slide to unlock was their idea, they have a right to patent it.
No they do not "have a right to patent it."
They have the power to patent it under our current legal system, but patents were not meant for such trivial functionality. This whole "we have a right to patent intuitive design" crap needs to stop. It is not helping spur innovation when you give large companies the right to patent common sense design.
If you want to patent a design on an advanced engine, fine. You want to patent an advanced chemical compound that cures something fine go ahead. But patents should be as limited in duration as they can be and the should only be allowed for complicated subject.
Simple user interface ideas, curved corners, touch screens, and the like should not be patentable. And even if they are patented (because of stupid politics), it should be for a couple years tops.

Re:Windows repair
apparently digitalriver are a MS distribtion partner and there are freely downloadable links on thier servers for windows ISOs. http://techpp.com/2009/11/11/download-windows-7-iso-official-direct-download-links/
There is a tool out there called "activation backup and restore" that can back up the big brand OEM activation and restore it onto a clean install of windows made using generic windows media. Alternatively you can use the product key on the COA sticker to activate though this may require a phone call to MS

Re:Version changes are the most visible evidence.
I'd say Firefox's biggest problem is that it's bloated. Chrom{e|ium} is considerably faster.
Really? Several report that I have read come the the conclusion the Firefox uses less memory than Chrome. Here is one relatively recent comparison between Firefox 7 and Chrome 14: http://techpp.com/2011/09/28/chrome-14-vs-firefox-7-memory-footprint-comparison/
This is from the article:
"It’s clear that Chrome 14 consumes more memory than Firefox 7."
Tom's Hardware also has comparison of Chrome 14 and Firefox 7, and other browsers, coming to the same conclusion: "Naming a winner for overall memory efficiency is really tough this time, but we have to give the victory to Mozilla. Firefox 7 is simply never weak in our testing.": http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/firefox-7-web-browser,3037.html -
Re:FFS it's not that hard
Even better: update your adblock plus lists to include the URL
https://adversity.googlecode.com/hg/Antisocial.txt
This list will block (or attempt to block) all third-party "Social" sites' widgets on pages not owned by the parties themselves. To install, find the add new subscription field fo AdBlock plus and paste in the URL above. Details for Chrome (but work for AdBlock plus in any browser) here:

Re:Not custom...
There is no need to pirate anything. Download the ISO from a reputable source and register using the license code stuck to the computer links
I just did this last week for my niece on her brand new HP laptop. The license code was under the battery. I did have to call Microsoft to activate manually. -
Re:I for one look forward to windows 9
If MS has any faith in their 'activation' systems they should make ISOs available. If they don't trust their copy protection methods enough to do so, they shouldn't have bothered...
See this:
http://techpp.com/2009/11/11/download-windows-7-iso-official-direct-download-links/The download links to 'digitalrivercontent' appears to be legal, they seem to be a microsoft partner.
Some of the links appear to point to 'network installers' but others such as this one for Ultimate 64 bit:
http://msft.digitalrivercontent.net/win/X17-24395.iso
seem to be full versions which presumably allow you to install the 30-day trial.I haven't actually tried this, but I have read many times that the isos were legally available so I'm pretty sure it's all genuine.

Re:Does it matter?
One of apple's biggest blunders is not considering mobileme a loss leader.
Particularly since you can do everything it offers for free.
- "Mail, Contacts, and Calendar. In sync on all your devices." My work and mail/contacts/calendar are already perfectly in sync. For contacts and calendar, I sync with Google (from my home, from my work Outlook, etc.) and then my iPhone syncs with that. Works just great. My mail has been accessible from all my computers and phone for a long time.
- "Create a beautiful web gallery of your photos and share them in just a few clicks. Store and share even large files online with iDisk. And access it all on the go with the MobileMe Gallery and iDisk apps." As if there weren't dozens of sites on which one could create a "beautiful web gallery". Store and share large files? Dropbox or SugarSync. $100/year gets me 20GB of files on iDisk, but actually less because my mail eats some of that up. On the other hand free gets me 2GB on either Dropbox or Sugar, and $10/month on Dropbox gets me 50GB. And I can access it on all the same places.
- "Me.com. Your home base on the web." Just what I need - another email address. It's 2010 - email addresses are free with virtually unlimited storage. And of course, the more you use your me.com email address, the less iDisk space you have...
- "Find your lost iPhone or iPad.". They're already a bajillion ways to do this.
MobileMe is a ridiculous ripoff.
