Simle minds expect simple solutions
Nuclear power and GMO foods are going to save us? Really?
As for GMO crops, um, no. Just no.
Do you realize the connection between the nitrogen cycle, fossil fuels, and the 1973 oil embargo?
In a nutshell: World populations grew faster than land based plants can fix nitrogen from the atmosphere. The natural carrying capacity of this planet using sustainable traditional agriculture is about 2 billion humans. Oddly enough, about the time that the world population level reached 2 billion humans, the most technically advanced society at that time created a process to make large scale artificial fertilizers (and explosives) and a major engine of the industrial revolution. Both powered by fossil fuels. Farming commenced on a massive scale. And war, but that's just entertainment for idiots and of no real importance.
Fast forward to 1973. A new world power (USA) pisses off the a little Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, and finds itself with insufficient energy to function. Everybody scrambled to find a way to fuel airplanes, cars, and tractors. Monsanto discovers that a chemical chelator that removes calcium, manganese, magnesium, copper and zinc (trace elements essential for most forms of life on earth), also kills weeds. Go figure. This seems to suggest a way to conduct large scale farming without having to till the earth, which greatly reduces the fuel needed to farm. Fast forward a bit, and now we have GMO crops that survive occasional applications of this new miracle herbicide. And then there's the unregulated application of this new herbicide on wheat. Because Profit.. And it seems to be everywhere.
Sadly, many forms of animal life that come in contact with Monsanto's creation get cancer, have the epithelial lining of their intestines die, and get misdiagnosed as having Celiac disease. And those that aren't so lucky end up morbidly ill and dying prematurely due to complications of a diet high in high fructose corn syrup (high cholesterol, heart disease, etc.)
Now connect the dots... stay with me here:
GMO foods today have their origin in a lack of energy and environmental planning. These are contributing to CO2 levels and a whole collection of ensuing health and environmental disasters.
Stop spewing carbon, stop processing food with short sighted techniques that result only profit for some and misery and death for most. And please realize that messing with plants has the potential to cause death and misery on a truly global scale. Do you really want to go there, for profit?

Re:Democrats in the US...
Yes, Democrats have a well-known negative stance about Rh-positive babies. Including A+, B+, AB+, and of course O+(?)
Oooh-kay. For those of you not familiar with basic newborn hematology, if a mom has Rh-negative blood (relatively rare compared at 15% to Rh-positive blood) and the baby has Rh-positive blood, and during pregnancy the mom's blood gets exposed to babies (can happen in car accidents and other placental problems resulting in fetal-maternal hemorrhage - the fetus's blood ends up in mom's circulation) the mom will start to make antibodies against the babies Rh antigens (more specifically, Rh-D antigens - there's more than one - Rhesus is a whole group; the D antigen is the troublesome one). This is one of the reasons couples contemplating marriage used to get blood tests in the United States, before the introduction of the medicine folks like James Harrison made possible.
In the United States, anti-D is typically referred to by its brand name, RhoGAM. It has antibodies to Rh-D - just a small amount, though. You inject this into a mom, her immune system detects them, and then if it sees actual anti-D from the fetus her immune system doesn't freak out and attack the fetal blood cells. Now and then we run into patients who do not like vaccines, which RhoGAM more or less is. The first baby is fine. The second baby to be exposed will often die (NSFW: pictures). In babies who don't die from hemolytic disease of the newborn (where their blood cells are destroyed, by maternal antibodies, among other problems) they can suffer brain damage. Treatment involves exchange transfusion and, in less severe cases, phototherapy, where we shine 460 nm light on them for a few days—hopefully not knocking too many DNA off the strand in the process.
Alternatively, you can take your chances with red raspberry and nettle tea, according to this person who claims to uphold evidence-based wellness, though she doesn't actually cite any evidence.
RhoGAM is made from pooled human plasma, like the gentleman cited in the article. He just happened to have a substantial amount of the antibodies, likely the result of blood transfusion exposure.

Re: But is it food.
And Soy is such a healthy protein source... right...... Not sure i would like to feed my kids that over a balanced diet that i know includes everything needed...

Re:But is it food.
So where will you get your protein from?.. Soy?
http://www.thehealthyhomeecono...And the second part... Do you know how much energy (fuel for production/transport, production/transport of pesticides etc, irrigation) is required to produce 3000 calories in vegetables? Do you know how much energy is needed to produce enough of the required nutrients for one person... It's not the same.. Sure 3000 calories may be enough energy for a person, but there are loads of missing things in that diet.
It's impossible, with current production, to sustain the earth's population on vegetarian diet without destroying the earth with co2 emissions etc. If we then factor in the amount of green's we need to grow to be able to match the dietary requirements the amount of green's we need to grow explodes..
The point here is that sure you can get most of your energy from plant-life, but if you supplement that majority vegetable based diet with a bit of fish, meat, eggs and milk you can reduce the amount environmental effects that a pure, and fully healthy, vegan diet causes.
I'm all for having lab-grown meat instead of the antibiotics-to-grow-fast-cow-meat-factory we have today.. But i prefer free-ranging animals because of taste and humane treatment of the animals, even if it would cost twice or three times as much..

Re:Not far enough
Because being vegan doesn't threaten your life
It does threaten the life of the child if the parents think a vegan diet sufficient for adults is sufficient for young children.

Re:Haggling for Rates
Their is plenty of evidence that GMO's are very harmful, like being deficient in trace minerals. The World Health Organization has declared Roundup to be a likely carcinogen
Worse yet our insanely stupid farmers/Monsanto have found an even more dangerous way to poison us by using roundup on NON-GMO crops as a preharvest drying agent
.

This wouldn't be an issue...
There wouldn't be so many anti-vaxers if these vaccines were more trust worthy, but the reality is that vaccines are manufactured by large corportations.. and the goverment isn't real fast to protect us... if you need more proof.. here is the story of how the CDC (30 years later) finally acknolodged the polio vaccine contained a cancer causing substance.. http://www.thehealthyhomeecono...
