ALS, Slashdot, Freshmeat and Themes.org
OctobrX hinted at it, but here's the deal. Slashdot, Freshmeat, and Themes.org are going to be going to the Atlanta Linux Showcase at the end of October. Hemos and Myself will be representing Slashdot, along with OctobrX and Scoop from Themes & FM respectively. We'll have a booth and some VA Research machines to run web sites on. The whole adventure is being sponsored by VA and Cyclic Software. If there is demand I can bring shirts for folks. We're still working out what we're going to do with the booth- the nude interpretive dance idea seems to be a popular choice though. -

Donovan was the first to warn the world that the 2.1.119 kernel is now out. I compiled my 2.1.118 kernel a wopping half hour before the 119 release. Sigh. Colin Walls sent us a link to the latest Spencer F. Kat cartoon thingee. There's another piece of aftermath from last weeks standards hoopla. icetrey wrote in to say "OctobrX and Bishop have chosen me, icetrey, to be the new blackbox themes webmaster. It has a new look, as well as a few new themes for 40.x." -

Graphics Galore

Ignash writes "For those interested in the new Amiga system and OS that Gateway 2000 sibsidary Amiga Inc. have promised for next year, they have released some conceptual pictures of Amiga OS 5.0." Man - those look really cool! Anyone feel like hacking up the Amiga-like window manager to make it look like one of these? -

Various Themes.org Updates
Trae Mc Combs wrote in to tell us about some major updates on Themes.org, including Alan Cox's guest tile, and a new "Tile of the Hour" feature (randomly selected from his now quite sizable collection, including tiles from lots of folks). Also he's been drumming up #Themes on efnet for discussion of themes regardless of Window Manager. -

Couple of Quickees
As per my norm, here is a few tidbits worth checking out: Mike Baker mentioned his Root Tail program which allows you to do some spiffy stuff on your root window with syslogs and stuff. Second we have A Sysadmins Journal from the Future written by Bart Dorsey. It's worth a read, and a wish *grin*. Updates Couple More: Trae warned us that Themes.org has it's second Guest Tile up:Raster's! And We also have a parody of ESR's CatB by Martin Hock , called, well *ahem* The Circus Midget and the Fossilized Dinosaur Turd. Read carefully. -
Guest Tile of the Week
Well OctobrX's been at it again. He's extended his tre' cool themes.org to include a Guest Tile each week, in addition to the normal Tile-of-the-day activities. The site will provide a 64x64 tile (standard Wharf/Dock size) created by someone interesting(?) besides OctobrX. Each victim will also be exposed to 3 questions. Unfortunately, well, guess who he chose to be first? -

Themes.org Is Up
Trae Mc Combs writes "Themes.org is now open for business! Thats right, the crazy guy that has brought the Linux community over 70 themes over the past year and a half, has now got his own domain." I guess it was only a matter of time before Oct got around to getting a domain for All Things X. Which reminds me, I really need to finish my new minimalist slashdot theme. It's gonna be spiffy on an 800x600. -
