Re: Conspiracy theories aren't always wrong
Unless we get a hold on this stupidity, the next step will be calling for the death of the others.
It's basically already happening.
While that seems a little tongue in cheek, I'll accept it. I'll note that it calls for arrests, not killing deniers. Regardless, it is monumentally stupid. Just so we are completely fair and balanced balanced I'll give a link on the other end. http://www.danablankenhorn.com...

Re: So now under Trump...
People praying for the misery and suffering of others.
No evidence of such prayers being made was offered.
Oh, was that what you wanted? You should have said something to that effect, instead of making this false accusation: "Such is your disdain for people praying which only indicated your attempt to deceptively portray the point being made, which was about a particular kind of prayer.
Not that it's any problem to find them, but you know, if you had a shred of integrity, or even sense, you'd have instead cut the argument off by rejecting such praying and stating that you don't believe in any God that would grant them.
But, even if they were — they are just that, prayers. Words.
Most people would have noticed that key point.
Why? You said "Such is your disdain for people praying" thus making your attempt to discredit someone objecting to prayers, while deliberately failing to consider that the prayers in question were for the misery and suffering of others.
That's the key point you missed. Of course, that means you can't now go back and say that praying doesn't matter. Because that would make you disdainful yourself of praying, making your initial objection invalid on its premises. Which would just combine with your transparent attempt at deceit serves to really discredit you.
You need to sit back, take some time, and think about how badly you fumbled your response.
And no, you can't go around denying their existence any further, not even by quibbling, that'll just make you look bad. The smarter course, is as I said, to denounce the wingnuts and their asinine prayers.
But you couldn't even muster the sense to do that.

Republicans: Enemies Of Freedom?
"Meanwhile, this week, the Republican Party officially added the "public health crisis" of porn to its official platform."
What's next? Burkas for Women? Public Stonings of Gays? Full-blown Sharia Law adopted into the Federal Code?
I swear: Next to ISIS, The Republican Party is the most Anti-American organization on the planet!
And I mean that with all sincerity. I despise Hillary; but SOMETHING has got to be done to stop the Republicans and their relentless drive to make America the next Theocracy.
...and if something would happen to Trump, and we wound up with President Pence...? -

Re:Obama's officials covering up their failures
You're right... that's one of the big differences between muslims and christians.... muslims take their religion seriously, while christians only give it lip service. Course, we have to ignore places like http://www.thenewcivilrightsmo... don't we.
His argument is compelling, and spot on for truth. People in the US are more in danger from the activities of "christian" fundamentalists than they are from islamic fundamentalists. -
Re:Obama's officials covering up their failures
http://www.thenewcivilrightsmo...
Why is it that people like you think that because you bury your head so far up your ass you don't see what's happening, that other people do the same thing? Anyone, and i mean ANYONE, who can't look out on any given day and see the extreme radical conservative "christians" in the US, who do not at all follow Jesus' teaching, is a complete fucking idiot. Be as intentionally stupider than fuck as you want, but don't think other people have a similar lack of attachment to reality. -
Re:Omar Saddiqui Mateen?
Point to the Christian mass shootings against gays in this country in the last 5-10 years.
Amerika is not the center of the universe, There are 7 billion people on the planet, most of whom don't live in your prescious little country.
Christians may think that homosexuality is a sin, but they are not raping, shooting, throwing in acid, or hanging gay people.
Maybe not in the US, but they do it in many others, and they love to talk about it in the US,

Re:Good
Dunno... let's ask them. 'cause women had little part in producing this cheap-ass, smoke-screen, dog-whistle law (women make up only 22% of the NC legislature, sponsors Dan Bishop and Paul Stam are men, and, of course, the governor is a dick). In fact, this law pre-empts a local Charlotte law that was passed by that city's elected officials... so it looks like all that GOP noise about respectin' the people's will is a load of shite when a state politician sees a tax-free chance to get himself some TV time and name-recognition.

Except the Christian extremist do tend to get their way in places like Uganda, with encouragement from American evangelicals. Exporting hate is a growth industry.

Re:The Struggle
This is because the refusal to bake the cake was of minimal consequence to the size of the judgment. The size of the judgment was primarily about the harassment that the Kleins subjected the couple to after they lodged a discrimination complaint (the refusal to serve a couple because of their sexual orientation is illegal in Oregon).
See more here.
The article includes the following quote from the ruling:
The Agency's theory of liability is that since Respondents brought the case to the media's attention and kept it there by repeatedly appearing in public to make statements deriding Complainants, it was foreseeable that this attention would negatively impact Complainants, making Respondents liable for any resultant emotional suffering experienced by Complainants. The Agency also argues that Respondents are liable for negative third party social media directed at Complainants because it was a foreseeable consequence of media attention.

Was enacted, has since been struck down but only for technicalities: lack of quorum when passed. That is being appealed to Uganda Supreme Court, and if that fails it will be brought up again. Original bill included death penalty, was changed after International pressure to life sentence, but politicians have been working to amend to make homosexuality a capital crime as originally intended.
Either way, the legislation has also increased vigilante homophobia, Uganda gays "face an atmosphere of physical abuse, vandalism to their property, blackmail, death threats, and 'correctional rape'."
Bill was introduced following a two-day conference by U.S. Christians on how homosexuality is a threat to families in Africa.

Re: Christian Theocracy
After seeing Gov. Pence on a This Week interview, I have to think he's one of the slimiest governors I've seen interviewed.
I am embarrassed as hell to be a Hoosier.
And as far as I'm concerned, this picture, of the PRIVATE Bill-Signing Ceremony for IRFRA, (Press and Public not invaded!) says it all. -
Re: Christian Theocracy
You mean like the 19 other states that already have similar laws? http://www.washingtonpost.com/...
Or maybe you're referring to the lead theocratic, Bill Clinton, who signed a federal RFRA law back in 1993?
Ya know; it's time this particular rubric is laid to rest.
The Indiana RFRA (IRIFRA) is NOT, as Gov. Pence would have you believe, simply a Copypasta of the Federal RFRA; and as usual, the Devil's in the Details. Here's a couple of differences:
1. The Federal RFRA Restricts its application to suits involving the Government or its employees and agents. The IRFRA specifically states that the Government does NOT have to be a Party to the Action; and furthermore, that the Government may INTERVENE in any action on the RFRA issues.
2. The Federal RFRA does NOT preclude lawsuits regarding RFRA issues; the IRFRA specifically states that the RFRA can be used as an "Affirmative Defense" in lawsuits. An "Affirmative Defense" is just one step from immunitization. For example, a Statute of Limitations is an Affirmative Defense. It does NOT hinge on the Merits of the case; but rather what amounts to a Jurisdictional issue.
Those two things alone make the IRFRA nothing like the Federal RFRA.
And as proof of the fact that this is nothing more, and nothing less, than an end-run against the LGBT community, you need look no farther than the picture of Gov. Pence at the PRIVATE (that is, by INVITATION-ONLY) signing of the IRFRA Bill into Law. The people who are standing CLOSEST to Pence (again, no accident) for the Photo-Op, just HAPPEN to be the same 3 or 4 people who have been the MOST vocal opponents to Gay Marriage in the State. By the way, the Press (let alone the Public) wasn't invited.
BTW, I live in Indiana, where a LOT more information regarding this has been presented than leaks out into the National/International news. -

Re:There really is an app for everything :P
The bible doesn't quite contradict itself in terms of its viewpoints on homosexuality. Other quite obvious contradictions aside, the bible quite plainly states that homosexuals must be put to death, as what they perpetrated upon the world is an abomination in the eyes of God.
As a disclaimer, I think the abomination lies in any "holy book" that calls for the murder of non-adherents...

Re:Obama achieved something
You'd think that would be so, since it's only fair. If homosexuals aren't allowed to serve, then they shouldn't be allowed to be drafted, right? Sadly, this wasn't the case. Expelling homosexuals from the military was suspended all the time when there were personnel shortages.
So, if you are openly gay, they would draft you anyway, send you to the front lines, and if you somehow survived, saved 10 lives, were a model soldier for years, got promoted up through the ranks, it didn't matter. They'd give you a dishonorable discharge as soon as you got back home.
Thanks for your service.
