The Toronto Star
The Toronto Star links to an obscene amount of ads, some of which tried to install software on my system. Visit the site several times, you'll find ads that cover 70% of the middle of the screen, and try to get you to install spyware. So much for the daily noose.

Justifiable homicide
I just happened to see this post shortly after reading this, about a group of cowardly cocksuckers trolling around shooting people with pellet guns (similar to their equally mentally handicapped paintgun shooting cousins), eventually hitting and probably blinding a 5-year old boy. Because some social fucking rejects have no sense of morality, social conscious, or at the very least fear of the law, a 5-year old boy will likely go through life blind in one eye, presuming that the pellet isn't currently lodged in his brain. That infuriates me so much that you're seeing the post that you're seeing right now. I know nothing more than the blurb on that story, but seriously I can envision a group of frat-like social retards, probably 16-17, having fun at the expense of others.
I say it with absolutely conviction, and not an ounce of hyperbole, when I pronounce that these mother fuckers should have an eye gouged out in a classic case of eye-for-an-eye. I seriously am saddened that we don't have rought vigilante justice, because these fuckers need a slug between the eyes.
That is all. Rage temporarily abated. BTW: If any of you reading are mental midgets and get your jollies by juvenile acts of violence, I sincerely hope you commit fratricide with your genetically damaged cohorts before any innocents suffer by your existence. -
Self righteous FUD Example: The REAL Jessica Lynch
What people HATE is the self-righteousness FUD that your government spews, smearing everyone else in the process.
Here's a good example. Remember Jessica Lynch the female US private that was 'rescued' by US forces from iraqi 'imprisonment'?
The Toronto Star has the real story.
Turns out that there were no troops in the hospital at all. And the hospital staff befriended her. And her injuries were not battle-related, they were more likely from falling off of a truck.
And the hospital tried to deliver her to the US troops, but when the AMBULANCE got within 300 metres of the US troops, they were fired upon.
Once again, the link -

US students abroad told to pretend to be Canadian
Here's something interesting.
I think it speaks for itself.
American students abroad told to pretend to be Canadians
At least when we leave our home country, we don't have to worry about being shot in the back by some yahoo with an axe to grind. -
Canadian banks affected by this?
I went to buy groceries this morning and was told that the networks of all the major Canadian banks are down except TD. Plus I haven't been able to connect to the toronto star all morning. Now I'm hungry and searching the couch cushions for change to buy myself lunch and a newspaper. It's scary how reliant on the availability of network services i am. Might not be too bad of an idea to stash some cash under the matress just in case something much much worse ever happens.

Re:But the cost of keeping a satellite up is nilThe topic has been discussed in an older topic and there was a link to an interview there which is relevant.
In that discussion it was quite apparent that using satellietes wasn't an alternative.
[From the interview]
"Existing satellites provide easy download capabilities, but because of their high-altitude have limitations for two-way, high-speed data communication."
"The Stratellite is designed to allow Internet subscribers to easily communicate in both directions using existing wireless devices."
"One of the many advantages of high altitude airships have over existing satellite technology is that the payload can easily be recovered, upgraded and re-launched in a matter of hours."
They calculated that they'd need 10 stratellites to cover the US. IIRC the satellite based digital radio network in the US is planned to use 3 satellites. (No you can't cover the entire hemisphere with one.) And since a geosyncronous satellite is so far away it requires bulky antennas and lots of electricity. Both is stuff you really don't want on mobile systems. (Even Iridium lost out pretty much because of the bulkyness, and they were LEO IIRC.)
Basically you can think of stratellites as a cross between satellites and cell towers. They can cover a wide area like satellites, but are maintainable like cell towers. (From the interview it's said that ones they are finished a stratellite would only need a one person crew to bring one down, do maintainence and send it on it's way again.) -

Molson lost their dispute too
Anybody remember how Molson was awarded Canadian.biz a while back? They lost on appeal in an Ontario Superior Court.
Story.
Of course, I submitted this as a story back when it happened a few weeks ago, but it wasn't posted... -
Only ones out there?
There's a fluffy book review on the front page of the Toronto Star today.
The link to the book on amazon is here
The article might not be very well written, but it raises some interesting ideas and guesses as to whether we're alone or not. Not completly on-topic, but what the hell...
