    Which actually sucks, because I had just got done training my dad to log into his webhosting account with ftp://domain.com and to type in his password in the pop-up, and then to drag-and-drop his files in order to upload them (mostly pictures he takes of my kid, in the form of "look at my grandkid").

    I had to wait until I could get back to my parents' house to install a real FTP client, and then train him on using FileZilla, after he installed IE7. I had also trained him to install microsoft updates when he goes to bed at night (they use AOL and are in the country, so they connect at 33600 at the best). He's a good guy and he means well. I don't really see what microsoft gains from this. I mean, heck, even I have my bookmark for totalfark in firefox set to http://totalfark.com./

    Fark.com and TotalFark are running about 10 different pranks, all randomized. Try refreshing the front page for a few minutes... it rotates through about 5 different pages, only one of which is the real one. h4x0r3d by gu1n3a p1g5! R0FL0L!!!111!

    They also have a regex changing random people's comments into different dialects like pig latin, redneck.

    There is also a random quote generator attached to some people's messages.

    Fark.com has something similar to what you propose. If you donate money and subscribe to TotalFark, you can view a list of all stories submitted, regardless of whether or not they make the front page.

    Maybe /. could do something like this for their subscribers?

    You're better off paying $5/mo for a subscription to TotalFark.

    If you're paying $10/mo for _Slashdot_ of all things, you're an idiot, I'm sorry. What, you don't get the sourceforge ads. Boo hoo.
    No new content means you shouldn't have to pay them. The fact knowing that I'd be supporting people like michael makes me vomit.

    Something I'd like to see is a page with the rejected story submissions on it, a la' totalFark. That way we could see for ourselves what kinds of stories we're missing out on, instead of waiting to hear about them in the troll comments.

    ... would be access to the rejected bin. i pay $5 a month for full access to totalfark, and its worth it there. give access to the reject bin here, and you may well get more subscribers.
