Never truer than now
They say "the price of freedom is eternal vigilance" and it looks like that is how europe is having to work to defeat patents.
You know well they will try again to introduce patents again and again but keep being vigilant and we will keep winning. thank you poland!!

Re:Bring it on.
I got those numbers wrong. I meant when in the article he says Windows boxes cost up to $230 LESS with dell and 100 to 150 LESS with HP then over 99 computers that is a saving of $14,850 to $22,770.
so twenty two thousand dollars saved by going with linux.

Well then you can buy 99 Windows PC's for $400 and one Linux PC in the same configuration and mirror the linux PC configuration and put it on all the Windows PCs then. So then you save $99 times $20 or $1980 doing this. And you didn't have to spend on creating an install!. And when in the article he says Windows boxes cost up to $230 LESS with dell and 100 to 150 LESS with HP then over 99 computers that is a saving of $1450 to $2270.
That is latteral thinking!

Well sorry you are an irrelevant answer. You corporate buy a few dells in the standard configuration with windows or with linux whichever is cheaper and then put the linux mirror back on it. total time spent like minutes? And you don't have to pay to be locked into MS again! So your benefitting twice.
So either way if windows is cheaper then linux is the same price
And if linux is cheaper then windows is more expensive.

Re:Bring it on.
This guy is trying to make a fair TCO analysis of Linux Vs. WIndows and part 1 doesn't look good for Linux. Now it is time for slashdotters to say that businesses should Install all their systems from scratch or Buy the Walmart systems.
Well it might not look good to start when you can buy a windows dell for $400 but the same Linux dell costs $420
But DUH you can buy the Windows dell for $400 and install linux FOR FREE ON IT
Even then if you needed to deploy a hundred of them through all a company then you can make one main install of linux and mirror it everywhere.
So Linux actually can never be more expensive than windows even if windows is the 'cheapest' to buy from the store.

Well he ignores one big fact
Well he ignores one fact here by only comparing buying windows with IBM DELL or HP and finding sometimes machines with windows are cheaper through them than with linux, they are in Microsoft's pocket!
he completely ignores when you can order your computer piece by piece and put it together not only cheaper for the hardware but there's no price fixing with windows included. in fact the price of a computer with no operating system like this is the same as one with linux!
So he purposely misstates any facts and says that windows is cheaper because some pricey manufacturers choose to sell windows for less than linux installed machines. This is silly too because you can just buy the chjeaper windows default install and put linux on it with a burned CD you downloaded for no cost. And then throw away the Windows CD!

Quartz is not vectorized
One thing should be noted, is, OSX aqua quartz isn't vector based it is still bitmapped, as many people are under the apprehension that it is all vector when it is just good bitmaps.
it is live compositing like postscript on screen but it is not yet vector.

And since then regardless of being paid television or free to air, it is not being shown near me. So the producers are losing what, nothing at all? Not like I am going to pay for it anyway because that is impossible.
Since they make it impossible for me to pay for it then I do have the right to get it for free, no ifs no buts about it.

Re:first

Well if you think about it you'll see there are many television shows that aren't shown in my country so I want to watch them. Also, many movies shown overseas that are not released in my country immediately
Are you saying I do not have a right to watch these? or follow them with my friends who might get them first? I will have to wait and wait months maybe a year to see them, by the time spoilers are posted everywhere? It should be illegal that they are forcing us to pirate (no I won't say theft!) these videos just to keep up with what other people are able to see. The internet is the great equalizer.

Here it reported my PC's HP printer drivers as p2p software.
Go MPAA, I maybe I could print out a flickbook with every frame from LOTR and give it away to friends.

OK this is a serious question
and I am not being negative and glib just passing off the need for faster, PC. When you have speed things will come up to use that horsepower!
But now say we have 2.5gihz athlon's and G5's and 3.8gihz pentiums and other processors all at respectable speed. They are really very good for many things!!
What do you all people see as uses for faster PC's if you could have 10gihz on a desktop machine or even laptop. Well video would be one thing that is good. What else would it help to have the speed for? Would it make a real advantage for you to step up for a 10gihz computer? Is it more, important, to have your 500gib and 1tib hard drive space and 8gib of ram with a big monitor??

Well obviously not as it doesnt matter how secure your operating system malware spyware will still get. It does that in all computers just depends on whether the user is tricked into installing it or not. And tricking users, is easy.

Well by definitions is where it might fail?
If you define spyware as they say in the article as "the installation of software that takes control of another computer." then it sounds broken already to me
Spyware does not have to take control of a computer.
It can be as simple as sending back browsing habits so cookies can, even, be not so far away from some spyware then,
Or it can just send credit card details or other browsing habits or snoop in places it shouldnt. All without "taking control" of another computer.
The devil is in the details. I would like to see what kind of software it really is defining as spyware.

Re:Nothing for you to see here. Please move along
I have often wondered, to myself, what if this is wrong sinking to their level? Someone defaces their site and its seen as a bad reflection on the linux communitys.
But when it comes down to it, this is not, even remotely close to what SCO are doing! SCO are thieves. Scum. They are wishing to use the legal syste, to gain and ownership and control and misuse the code of thousands of programmers, to scum off them and make profit on what is not theirs, they wish to lie and cheat and deprive the real workers and people playing by the rules of the benefits of their work, and they send letters to senators saying to make open source and linux and GPL unconstitutional??? This is not just a case of a minor disagreement between people about code this is SCO a thieving company wishing to exploit the works already done by so many people. Lying, theft, unconsciounable deceipt and exploitation
I think some graphics replaced on their website is really minor considering the filthy actions they are trying to do!!!. Really!!!
