Re:Trump will reverse it
It does have the effect of making a country's leadership look bad if they do not join the majority or joining, if they fail completely to make improvement.
Like the other guy posted, Donald Trump can be seen an example of someone who if elected does not intend to work towards the goals in this Accord. How does that make him look? Like a conspiracy loon, on top of other things.
-
Re:Trump will reverse it
Speaking of Trump, climate change, and the Chinese, we have Trump's famous tweet that explains his position on the subject with atypical clarity.

Well, as it's clear to Mr. Rogozin now, you can razz us for a little while but it doesn't last forever. He got the trampoline he asked for.

Re:"...the first reflown 1st stage"
Is there independent confirmation of this, because I'm not hearing that?
Here.
What was blown up: AMOS-6
What's being launched on a reused rocket: SES-10 -
Re:Predictable
Sorry, but that quote is wrong. The first reused booster is (was?) scheduled to launch SES-10 later this year.

She's getting brutal
Looks like someone has had enough with these banking breaches.
-
Re:Still higher than a Soyuz launch
Remember when Rogozin said the U.S. should get its astronauts to ISS with a trampoline? He's singing a different tune now. SpaceX is currently operating at a very significantly lower cost than Russian rockets in terms of $/kg to the specified orbit. And that's in the expendable configuration. Given successful reuse by SpaceX, Russia probably won't have a place in the market.

Re: You forget that
I agree there is no difference morally, but there is a big difference societally. A female who decides all men are rapists gets rewarded with Title IX kangaroo courts in universities where the man's right to trial by jury is denied.
By the way, in the citadels of learning where much of the misandry is enabled, there are cracks in the foundations. The University of Chicago sent a letter to all incoming students that included in part:
"Our commitment to academic freedom means that we do not support so-called 'trigger warnings,' we do not cancel invited speakers because their topics might prove controversial, and we do not condone the creation of intellectual 'safe spaces' where individuals can retreat from ideas and perspectives at adds with their own," the letter from Dean John Ellison said, sent Wednesday to the class of 2020.
"Members of our community are encouraged to speak, write, listen, challenge and learn, without fear of censorship," the letter also said. "You will find that we expect members of our community to be engaged in rigorous debate, discussion, and even disagreement. At times this may challenge you and even cause discomfort."
http://www.businessinsider.com... Full text https://twitter.com/ChicagoMar...
The problem of course is that in earlier attempts to be inclusive of other viewpoints, Universities have found that many of those who desired inclusiveness had no intention of granting it to others. Not only that, but the denials of expression that the snowflake crowd demanded started to extend into ridiculous areas, such as chasing comedians off campus, and while one could find Bill Maher offensive - of course, that's what he's trying to do, be offensive , funny and make you think, but their outrage extended to Jerry Seinfeld. Seinfeld and others don't even play college campuses any more.
The snowflakes even extended their umbrage unbrella toward Halloween costumes. They would deny others what they demand for themselves.
This might be coming to an end, as Universities are figuring out that the model is a tyranny of the presumably oppressed. Expect to see the whackadoodle element scramble to find other places where they can act all outraged.

Re:Feminist/SJW Echo Chamber Circling The Bowl
No one is stopping you from spewing whatever inane stupidy passes for incitement commentary among your crowd. You'll be just as free to make an idiot of yourself on Twitter once these changes are in effect.
Really? You should pay more attention, because that's exactly what's happening. This is just one case of many, where there is one set of rules for one group of people and another for the "right kind of people."
Or you're missing context, when someone is currently the target of a harassment campaign they're given a little more leeway than someone who tweets something out of the blue.
And even if there was a double standard (which I don't concede) your comment is still wrong, the alt-right would still be free to say whatever it wants, it would just be that only one side would be able to harass.
Keep in mind that Milo never did that
Milo was clearly encouraging his followers to go after Jones and his other targets. Twitter isn't a court of law, "everybody knows" can be a sufficient standard for them to bad someone for persistent harassment.
Again context, Jones was trying to retaliate and protect herself from a campaign initiated by Milo.
So have several other people who were verified including a rapper, reporter, and a EiC of a magazine
...all of whom sic'd their followers on other people for engaging in wrong think. There's also another case of a person threatening a reporter with rape...for weeks(wish I could remember her name but it escapes me atm). Those are just off the top of my head. You know what the difference between them and Milo is? Milo doesn't carry the same political ideology as them. That reporter? She's a conservative. But in both cases when there are actual threats against them? Twitter has done nothing.I'm not familiar with all of those cases, certainly not the rape threats, and Twitter may have been inconsistent in the past. If so, they will hopefully fix that in the future. No one should be the target of harassment.
But you're also conflating harassment with with social campaigns, like trying to excerpt pressure against shady businesses, or outing people who have done something bad (these campaigns are very troubling, but different from harassment).
For instance I don't think I'd mind as much if Milo had encouraged his followers to call the producer or studio to complain about the movie. The problem is that he was making Twitter into a place where a black actress couldn't really stay.

Perhaps if enough people retweet it they'll actually give an answer. It just seems so ridiculous.

Sure thing. Let me know when they actually start going after the actual harassers okay? You know people like Zoe Quinn, Kathleen Cross, Randy Harper, Izzy Galvez, Chris Kluwe and so on. You know, the people who claim that they're against harassment...right out there...harassing people, doxing people, and so on.

Re:Sketchy
That's true and most likely what Muddy Waters did. Further, biotech traders especially are notorious for watching option flow because blowups are more common than positive outcome trials. And leaks are almost expected these days no matter how the trades are structured to hide inside info.
But in this particular case it's almost definitely what you described, basically front-running their research just like Citron, Streetsweeper and others do. As a matter of fact, here's a screen shot showing a decent size put position being put on $STJ a few days ago (probably not just Muddy Waters but other cohorts too): https://twitter.com/WallStJesu...
It's actually one of the few ways the little guy can bank based on "inside info" just by keeping an eye out for activity like this. I personally follow about 5 users who exclusively tweet blocks and unusual option activity, it pays off about 60% of the time (not just puts, calls too). Some opening positions really are most definitely based on the illegal-type inside info, the rest are front-running research like described above.

So easy to corrupt
It's been a long while since Wikileaks was a scruffy little band of freedom fighters. Unfortunately, they've become an outfit used by oligarchs, intelligence services and dictators to settle scores, gain advantage and destroy enemies. And this happened partially because Julian Assange understandably developed something of a martyrdom complex while he was hiding from rape charges and allowed his self-regard to run out of control and is now easily manipulated. It's all pretty predictable if you look at the dramatic arc of the story.
Wikileaks changed the world, and changed along with it, trivializing their mission and becoming what they were trying to defeat. They've been co-opted and are now they're a joke that posts online polls of the US presidential race. They've become Breitbart. They've become Gawker without the accountability. They're just another organization of online trolls.

I thought the answer to speech you don't like was more speech. Not if you're Peter Thiel. He used his money and power to destroy a website because they called him a homo.
Had nothing to do with free speech. The website published a porno without permission of those in it. The website ignored a judge's order to take it down. The website destroyed itself. Mr. Thiel just helped that along. Think of that the next time you donate to the ACLU to do your bidding.

Re:$23
It was a beautiful day in court if you like courtroom drama. Some of the dialogue:
[Oracle attorney]Hurst throws her hands up. "It’s a fraud on the jury! It’s a mockery of the system!"
Google attorney responded by saying that Oracle already tried to bring ARC and other products into it, and that the court struck testimony about these products, because this limited retrial was frozen in time, looking at what was available in 2012.
Judge ALSUP to Google: "Do you concede that Oracle is entitled to bring a new lawsuit against any new product that was not in the first trial?"
Google: "YES"
ORACLE: "We certainly can sue, but that’s not why this verdict should be set aside."
later
(Flashback: key argument in the case was that Android did not compete with Java SE because it was not for desktop.)
Hurst throws up arms again and starts shouting, "This is outrageous! They’re lying to the jury!" (because Android on Chromebooks)
Judge ALSUP [trolling]: "We already said we’re going to have another trial on all of those other products."
Judge ALSUP: "Do you know how many Social Security claimants I can't rule on right now because you're arguing over a cost bill?"

Glad I got my popcon. This is getting entertaining!
Would that be like your claim that anti-gamergate people don't actually dox people? You should notice some very big names there.
... The fact that it annoys you so much it mere icing on the cake.
The fact that you don't have a problem with the silencing of opinions that don't fit your world view says a lot more about you then anything else. You don't think that you won't be the next one on the list?
Right, because she's sued people and been disbarred. Or do you mean that merely daring to voice an opinion is equivalent to absing the legal process badly enough to get disbared.
You mean where she turns around and pushes for censorship, and is exactly the same as Jack Thompson minus the law degree, but you don't seem to have a problem with that?
I think you need to consult a dictionary. As a first step, if I were you, I'd look up "sexism". For your second step, you should look up "non sequiteur".
Perhaps you should try "reality" followed by "fact." Or you can try explaining why people give pro-authoritarian folks like Sarkeesian a microphone and openly support her point of view when if the sex was revered they'd not only be doing the opposite but there would be op-ed articles a mile long about how she's trying to restrict the freedoms of other people.

Right, and so long as they are not storing any identifying information with the data, there really is no problem with it. You could have an opt-in to add extra data, unpopulated by default, but on the whole, if it is just telemetry, there shouldn't be a problem.

I stand corrected
Nevermind, I take back what I said - the article itself didn't specifically address the PII aspect, according to this Tweet/Image, you can infer the REST endpoint does include the username.
While I again don't personally care too much if it were me, and also while I think usernames are a weak form of PII, I do understand how storing it per account can be disconcerting and definitely hope this discovery will help change the company's policies.

Re: Oh no
None of the "new right" as you put it censors the left but Milo himself has been kicked off of Twitter (even though Leslie Jones incited her followers to attack someone in the same thread: https://twitter.com/Lesdoggg/s...), had his event shut down at DePaul where he was threatened by Black Lives Matter, and nearly had other events shut down at other colleges, including UCLA.
Oh, you bet it happens. But according to the loonier parts of the "new right", whenever someone on the left has an event shut down it's a "false flag" operation or some such bullshit. For some reason it's easier to believe a grand unprovable conspiracy theory than admit that each side has its fair share of crazy people.
Regressive practices like censorship and threats may appear to impose a solution but they really just bully other points of view into silence, which breeds contempt and leads to the rise of the more radical elements, like Trump and Milo.
Trump and Milo more than take up the slack with threatening and dog-whistle threat incitement (respectively) on their side of the debate. (Also, kudos for recognising that Trump and Milo have a hell of a lot in common.)
Having said that, I agree with the general thrust here. A pox on both their houses.

Re:trolling for clicks
And yet, they didn't ban Leslie Jones for encouraging targeted harassment of someone who was mean to her - that tweet is still up. That is against Twitter's ToS, but they didn't make her take it down or do anything to her.
Now, to be sure, she got a lot of abuse, and she didn't deserve that. But I think Twitter should at least try to enforce its ToS evenly. -

June 2 came and went, tp-link's router firmware returned to field upgradable, and other manufacturers did nothing to make flashing other firmwares any harder than it already was. Hopefully, our arguments buttressed the legal case ongoing at the time against tplink (I knew there was one, but not against whom, or over what, I hope to get more details).
This does not mean the war is won, however. Certainly binary blob firmware that completely controls the radio remains a problem - but progress is being made with the very thin firmware in the 802.11ac mt76 chipset, I am not aware of 5ghz ath9k chips requiring blobs, and other binary only firmwares are improving to support APIs that fq_codel on wifi needs.
http://blog.cerowrt.org/post/f...(Recently a few new *major* chipsets had wifi drivers submitted to the linux kernel, but I haven't looked at what, exactly the firmware controls. The state of most wifi drivers and firmware is thoroughly depressing - and a very smart and fast co-processor is seemingly needed to run at very high rates)
Five things I learned from this exercise:
1) If a legalistic solution can be vague, it will be. It then can be spun many ways for many audiences. Read Ed Bernays.
Still, sometimes what is said publicly, continues to matter, and the FCC has said some very nice things.2) The FCC was not the enemy, but a harried organization attempting to fulfill its mandates. As minimally outlined, their problem was the FAA complaining about wifi interference with weather radars. The first solution was overbroad. They have a much better understanding of the roles of open source, third party firmware now - after the keruffle - of the usefulness of user control, better security, and more frequent updates.
The FCC has WAY bigger problems than linux wifi. The number of wireless capable devices requiring certification and testing is skyrocketing, among other things.
https://twitter.com/FCC is a good source for the FCC's other concerns.
3) If you really want attention in D.C., it is a good idea to make a good argument, with a lot of well known people, file it somewhere inside the agency's process, and then issue (buy) a press release, and make the biggest stink you can.
As it turned out many of the recommendations we made above cannot be implemented inside the FCC's mandates, but the FTCs.4) Chipmakers can now no longer hide behind an argument that the FCC will not let them open up their firmware.
5) The best "proof of the pudding" I can think of would be to push through a new product with much more or entirely open wifi firmware through the FCC processes, using the CRDA library to enforce the rules. Lining up a vendor willing to try that has so far not happened, although I expected a few mt76 chipsets to enter the US by now, I have not been actively watching their RSS feed for progress.
All in all, honestly, I do think we moved the dial a few notches in the right direction, and I'm going to sleep pretty well tonight.
