Re:Then explain why people appear to get lower sco
Thats because they dont care about school anymore, not [necessarily] because of any damage to the brain. Now you may say that not caring about school is a bad thing, but I would tell you to get your head out of your ass.
As far a marijuana goes, many studies have shown that there is no change in neurons or evidence of neuronal death, even after long term exposure to THC.
I know many people who use marijuana frequently and yet do very well in school, straight A students . . . some in the gifted-talented program (which has nothing to do with being gifted or talented, only with how well you do on tests)
If you want to find out marijuanas effect on the brain, try it for a year, smoke a joint when you would be otherwise waching TV (talk about effects on the brain), see how your life is affected. I bet it will only be for the better, less stress etc..

Re:Clear Text or Two-Way Encryption
Gad! What part of
They aren't. If you forget your password, Slashdot will mail it to you (the "mailpasswd" button on /users.pl when you're logged out). Slashdot emails you your password, in clear text. So, even if the passwords are encrypted, they can be decrypted. How else would Slashdot be able to tell you your password?
did you not understand?

Look for the tech in Darwin . . .From the Darwin to do list:
Bootstrap Intel
The Intel support in Darwin is largely dormant and hasn't been exercised much since Rhapsody. Getting Darwin installation working on Intel is the first problem. Getting it running is second. We have some experience with this; we'll need to dig up some old tools at Apple to help this get rolling.

Re:Sue Lars!
While the legal grounds for such a lawsuit have not been found yet, we realize the urgency for public outcry far outweighs minor details such as the law.
Right, those darn details.

BUT they were adding something, they were adding the ability to listen to your music anywhere. That seems to me it would be fair [use]!

Re:I want to change universeYour comment reminds me of my reaction after reading Flatland (http://eldred.ne.mediaone.net/eaa/FL.HTM).
If you havent read it, do, its funny in a kind of boring way. Here is the Dedication:
To
The Inhabitants of SPACE IN GENERAL
And H.C. IN PARTICULAR
This Work is Dedicated
By a Humble Native of Flatland
In the Hope that
Even as he was Initiated into the Mysteries
Of THREE Dimensions
Having been previously conversant
With ONLY TWO
So the Citizens of that Celestial Region
May aspire yet higher and higher
To the Secrets of FOUR FIVE OR EVEN SIX Dimensions
Thereby contributing
To the Enlargment of THE IMAGINATION
And the possible Development
Of that most and excellent Gift of MODESTY
Among the Superior Races
Of SOLID HUMANITY
BTW, how to you make /. display your text centered in a post? align="center" doesnt seem to work, but I think I have seen it done.

Re:Athy's rule!
Your post was great. I love satire. It did NOT deserve a score of 0. Does
/. score posts with a perl script that generates a random number from -1 to 5? It sure seems that way sometimes.
No, posts are scored by moderators, suposed by many to be actual humans. In any case the results are far better than a simple perl script could produce.
BTW, that post was posted by an AC, and automaticly starts at 0, duh

Re:Site works as advertised
I thought it was good, I didnt have that one, but I have alot of good anti Religion quotes at http://ubernerd.org/quotes.html (they are kinda in with a bunch of other quotes). My personal favorite is:
And of all plagues with which mankind are curst,
Ecclesiastic tyranny's the worst.

Re:I don't think it is bad that they put it out.
Also in the school were I go, when I, or the guy I TA for, see someone missing using the school system (porn) via the proxy server we get on the case. We track them down as best we can using there IP address.
Reminds me of the time I tried to use some of that bandwith at school by downloading some warez with hotline. I went to hotline.com to download the client. OOOPS. RING, RING. deap shit! And then I explained I was just going to dl some warez. Heh.

Re:GNUTella vs. Napster
or not...
i think it was them.
my reasoning? well, none, but if gnutella was about to put me out of the game, i would do something about it. they are just smart enough to not put their name on it, knowing that it would be lawsuit bait.
sorry for the no caps post, i am typeing w/ one finger

Re:Please-- NO!
I can't even count the times I've stomped my brakes and cursed at 'fucking Bimbo boxes' on the highway...
Yup, and all the studly (sp?) the testostone boys at my highschool.
The one genre that I've thought would be able to handle films like Snow Crash (or Neuromancer) would be anime. Busting Snow Crash into 3 2-hour animated episodes would be great. I'd prefer it was voiced in English, but it'd look awesome as anime.
YES! Stephenson was going to do a computer game of it wasnt he? I think it would do much better if it stayed totaly unreal, you just can not convay the feelings and images I got from the book with actors, no matter how much you spend on SFX (come on, prove me wrong!)
Picture it in your mind-- the stereotypical quickly-scrolling-background-art of many an anime production, w/ the magna-poon whipping thru the foreground and sticking on the back of a minivan... Picture it. Ahhh...
Stop, dont make me cum :)
