Re:Wow... that's cool
Say that again after you memorize this and this (zipped pdf) layout, and then maybe I'll change my mind and agree with you.

Who announced what where?
Ubisoft, publisher of the Wolfpack Studios-developed MMORPG Shadowbane, has announced, via the site's official news page, that the title is now available to play for free without subscription fees
Wait a minute. What official news page? I don't see this announcement anywhere but gamasutra. There's no link.
http://www.shadowbane.com/ - Flash page, the only link for news leads to:
http://chronicle.ubi.com/ - looks like they're preparing for new & returning players and there's a community announcement about their billing system. The announcement dances around some kind of big change, but their Community Manager isn't authorized to give any details. There's some offhand conjecture in the forum. Nothing else.
http://www.ubisoft.com/ - Press? Nothing there.
Did it get retracted? Maybe I'm missing something. -
Cokkie-cutter timeFC Sandbox Editor
Many of the commonly used objects are stored, with appropriate parameters,in the Entity Library, which can be accessed by clicking Show Database View in the Window menu. The database will show up as a window on your work screen, and can be shut down again once you have finished with it. The database is very useful for quickly applying objects to your map that can be difficult to get to work because they require particular parameters. The database provides ready-made "cookie-cutter" objects of almost everything that you might want in a Far Cry(TM) level, including particle effects, destroyable objects, doors and switches. To access these objects, click on the folder icon in the database, and open any of the files in the EntityLibrary folder. These will then automatically be listed in the Archetype Entity list on the Object tab of the RollupBar for easy access. Once you have opened all the libraries you want, close the database to create more room for your work. -
Re:Here's a Related Question
This is what I found pretty cool about Ubi Soft's IL-2. It runs decently on not-so-super-duper-optimized gaming boxes with nice graphics in multiplayer.
We've wondered whether the Russian coders super-duper trimmed down their code because they didn't have access to as high end workstations as a lot of western gamers. -
Re:Byebye, Sierra
Yeah, Ubisoft seems like a pretty cool company. But just so you know, like most big corporations today, they've got offices all over the world.
I sincerely hope that the French government doesn't try to strangle their games industry like they did their movie industry. But if they do, it's good to know that Ubisoft could easily shut down or move their France-based offices. -
Re:Byebye, Sierra
Amusingly enough, it looks like France will be saving our asses this time.

Re:Joke prompting...
Sorry to say, but you're kind of speaking nonsense: Ubi Soft is not Canadian, and they're not based in Montreal. Their mini history profile on the bottom of their press releases states "Founded in 1986 in France", and their corporate website has a history page which tells us this, and that they only opened the Canadian studio in 2001/2002.
At the start they were a French distributor, and in 1994 they opened studios in Montreuil, which is where you may be getting confused. But Montreuil-sous-Bois (to give the town it's full title), as you may have guessed, is in France. -

More Info/Links....
The Official Uru Website also has Wallpapers. On the UbiSoft E3 website there is a cool Trailer![2nd game down]
Cyan also runs a in character site. Its called the DRC, and without getting into too much detal, the DRC is an organization from within the Uru Story. There are more screen shots and even music that you can get from DRC Site.
There are many cool community sites, including MystCommunity. Cyan even releases some Open Source software from this website.
Looking at the screen shots this could be one of the most visualy inspiring games in a long time. If they can pull off this Hybrid MMOG way to gamming(you did RTFA didn't you?) it will be very cool.
There have been quite a few articles on Uru recently, to find most of them, just do a search on Google News -

ubisoft is also the company producing shadowbane. Looks like they're really jumping into the MMO* market.

Others to watch for...
Not to start a flame war or anysuch mayhem, but honestly I don't see this game or the always mentioned Star Wars Galaxies game getting too far.
Both these games will get great intial turnout, I would expect, simply due to the already successful marketing of their names. But beyond that they have relatively little to offer.
For my money, a game like ShadowBane (also from UbiSoft) will truly rock the market and gain players that will stick. As will Planetside , the first first-person shooter MMOG, at least that I know of.
At least these companies have their bases covered. When Myst dies a silent death UbiSoft will be sitting pretty atop the cash cow that ShadowBane will become, and Sony will keep things running with Planetside and of course the neverending run of EQ. -
Shadowbane
I have to second a vote for Shadowbane, "The MMOG without all that pesky RPG stuff" lol. This game has been waiting for release "next month" since like December of 2000. Pure vapor!

Re:It's the Economy Stupid
You should check out Shadowbane... they've paid alot of attention to the economy, learning from the mistakes of other MMOG's...
-
No way I'd pay for this...
Way too old/clunky/and not fun. WW2 Online is supposed to be coming, but that game is (I think) still pretty buggy on PC. The only mac MMRPG that I'm thinking about dedicating my life to is Shadowbane . They already have a mac beta; I'd assume the mac version will be released around the same time as the PC version, sometime this summer I hope.

Re:Marginal
Isn't that Shadowbane? I heard they were doing something similar, being able to add continents in real time over a modem connection, no more massive "EQ-like" downloads. Curious if thats the game you talking about, I havent played it.
