Re:The DVD killer is already here
This is spot on.
The early Disney DVDs released around 1999 were of dubious quality (poor transfers, not all 16:9 widescreen.) And the price was $40.00.

Oh yeah, and a lot of parents just get used copies from garage sales, online sales, etc. Collectors might care if the DVD/Blu Ray came in a steelcase or slip-cover. And they'll definitely complain if there's any visual flaws in the film like compression artifacting. But average parents couldn't care less what was printed on the cardboard box. They just want a working DVD disc. -

There's a better picture of Sinclair here, much more flattering:

Re:Supermodel Gadget.
Where can I pick up one of those delicate, beautiful supermodels gadgets everyone's talking about these days? At an Apple store?

"Back then, what did you get from Disney? Cute li'l films about cute fuzzy animals having some cute adventures. So people did not expect a 'serious' science fiction movie.
"Second, it was the wrong kind of science fiction for this time. Science fiction back then was either in a galaxy far, far away or equally far away in the future. But most certainly not NOW. How can you make science fiction in the NOW?"
NO! you are forgetting The Computer Who Wore Tennis Shoes , some of the most advanced science fiction set in the NOW (the 1969 now that is), pitting Dexter Riley against the evil AJ Arno. Disney WAS a scifi powerhouse!!!

Re:Would be a great move.
> When is the last time you saw a short Mickey Mouse cartoon? Exactly.
Quite recently actually, and I can watch them whenever I like, since I got the Living color collections. Here in the Netherlands they sold for only 13 euros each (without the tin can packaging), which made them a much better deal than $1 per cartoon. -
Re:and this will help disney? How about it.
I rented TP when it came out on video and I counted about 5 previews for direct-to-video titles that looked to be poor quality, squeeze money out of the original, sequels.
- Atlantis: Milo's Return
- Cinderella II
- Lady and Tramp 2
- 101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure
- Lion King 1 & 1/2
No chance of focusing attention and resources on producing something new and entertaining when there is money to be made turning out crap like this that "leverages the value of existing franchises".
Oh, and Hunchback of Notre Dame II with Jennifer Love Hewitt as Quasimodo's love interest? Give me a break!
