Nature is Pissed
Maybe now nature won't be pissed.
Check out this link, halfway down is a T-shirt of an Angry Daisy t-shirt that pretty much sums it up.
Note: I am in no way affiliated with this guys site, but I DO agree with a lot that he has to say.

omg... stfu plz..Yadda, yadda..
Slashdot wouldn't exist if there weren't programmers getting paid for what they're doing. They get paid when the company they work for makes money off of a product. That means somebody is selling something.
Slashdot _would_ exist without "programmers getting paid" for keeping it alive, and I dare say it would even suck less. You have a low enough ID# to remember when /. was independent or have you forgotten allready?
Ideology is poor currency at the grocery store.
At a grocery store maybe. But grocery stores are not the only place where you get the stuff to fill your belly. Ever heard of collectives? Most of the OSS is collective work too. How do you think people filled their bellies all the thousands of years when currency itself didn't exist?
The OSS developers do their best and then share and take advantage of eachothers works thus eliminating the "suits taxation" wherer a lot of their sweat is converted to money for in effect non-producing individuals. Also, it really shold be needless to mention all the OSS companies who sell services instead, but I guess you may have forgotten about them too?
And remember: Don't eat your soul to fill your belly!

Re:blame canada!
How can you call yourself an American, talking like that? The government wants to trash the Constitution, so you must be some Nazi-commie-pinko-fag-(insert more knee-jerk propagandist titles here)-terrorist to complain! Damn Unamerican and unpatriotic if you ask me. Can't have people calling for the Constitution to be upheld. That'd mean people might actually have to read it first!
Guards, arrest that man!

Re:Oh yeah? Describe how the DeCSS worksEven without using sourcecode just describing how it works is illegal, you'll be sued and fined
I wear a T-Shirt with the DeCSS source code about once a month; no one has either sued or fined me.
And that's not the government doing the suing (governments tend to stick to criminal cases); it's a corporation, and they -- being smarter than most governments -- have chosen targets to sue who are likely to lose. Being an asshole makes it hard to win in civil suits.
yes this is not as bad as China but you dont have any more freedom than China the only difference is their punishments are more harsh.
I personally have a great deal more freedom than the average Chinese citizen (according to my old college roommates; they did come from the PRC back in the Tian An Men days). I can call up my local talk radio and rant (for as long as the host lets me) about the crimes of George Bush, and guess what? I don't end up jailed, making cheap shoes for Nike. I can post criticism of the US, buy Unamerican, play European DVDs, and drive my classic car, and not get any "governmental" interference.
You seem to be confusing the stupid laws with the companies that paid for them to be passed. I may get sued by Disney, but the U.S. Federal Government couldn't care less what I do, so long as I continue paying my protection money (read: income taxes). -
Re:PostModern CasseroleNot to troll,
I'm used to posting on the OpenBSD mailing lists, so my first response is do your homework!
(j/k)how can putting living creatures (yeast) into a dish allow it to stay vegan?
vegan is "someone who eats no animal products at all", yeast is part of the fungus kingdom, not the animal kingdom. it would be the same as plucking fruit from a tree and eating it (in terms of being vegan, but if you really wanna get strict with your eating habits check out fruitarianism)
With regards to this site, i figured it would be relevant to point out the vegan aspect of that dish since it means there is no cholesterol in it, which might be of importance to those whose stereotypical meal consists of big macs[3,3] and pizza (well, the typical pizza. i really like Amy's vegetable pizza).
My recipe is also quite low fat and very high protein, by the way. -

Love of pop culture? My Ass...
If there's a single trait most people who read Slashdot share -- maybe the only one besides an addiction to software -- it's a love of popular culture.
Pop culture, no... sub-culture maybe. AOL/Time Warner is pop culture. MTV is. Abercrombie and Fitch, and Hot Topic are. Pepsi and Coke certainly are. Face it, listening to indie rock has become part of pop culture. Buying a T-shirt from unamerican.com promotes conformity through individuality.
Advertizing has become insidious, with people completely unaware that astroturfing is occuring. Think the Soppranos just became popular? No, they paid radio stations to talk the show up in banter format as opposed to a commercial. I won't argue whether or not it is a good show, but I won't watch it either because its advertisement is morally objectionable. You are conditioned to like things, you are conditioned to buy certain things... Clever marketing is taking over your lives. -

Work Sucks
Where I work, emergency medical personel are routinely seen wheeling someone out on a stretcher. For some time, this was a daily event. With this sort of environment, you'd think someone would raise an eyebrow and investigate the working conditions. Where I work, the majority of workers are Phone Monkeys, this place is commonly called a call-center. These beasts are quickly becoming the place where modern-day bluecaller workers get money. Since there's no heavy machinery or falling objects, OSHA doesn't seem to care. What seems to happen is this:
Company gives you stock options, dangling this carrot in front of you. Imagine: retire by 30. Then the company gives you unreasonable goals, often times terminating your employment if you fail to reach them by a small margin. The result is that the (many) psychologically unstable call center employees go through nervous breakdowns. I fear that someday it will be someone going postal and not simply a nervous breakdown (not to diminish the profound effects of a breakdown). People should be proud of their jobs.
What does this have to with Northwest? It's a job, and it's a job that provides an environment that is unfavorable to it's employees.
Anyways. That's my rant. I wonder if they will come get me and search my computer.

geekgirls
hell yeah. if i hadn't gone to a private school where being smart was cool,
i don't know what i would have done. but it sucks to rely on scholarships
to keep oneself sane.
Geeky females get to deal not only with the pervasive
anti-intellectual bent of American schools, we also have to deal with
a culture that tells us that if you're young and female and don't look
like a supermodel, you don't count. Being female in HS is hard enough;
being female and a geek is worse. IME you've gotta be "one of the boys"
to be accepted/respected by geek guys, and that's not always the greatest
either.
The Colorado school shootings make me want to buy a bunch of the stickers
that Unamerican.com sells:
"THIS TOWN EATS ITS YOUNG" and post them around my hometown.
One of those kids looks just like a guy i knew in HS who got suicidal
because he couldn't deal with the XOR choice between being smart
and being cool. damn shame.
