Re:The Difference
It inhibits CCR5 interactions. Thats strickly macrophages - open still are CXCR4 interactions (T Helper Cells) and cell-to-cell mediation. Autoimmune reponse still cause the body to kill itself if the virus is present, and there is also the lymph system and the brain (it crosses the blood/brain barrier).
Plus, HIV can lie latent for many years.
It's one nasty virus. This drug does NOT make you immune to HIV.
AIDS

I really dislike AIDS ignorance
in Japan, Kumamoto University researchers have developed a drug that will block cells from the AIDS virus, thus making something akin to an AIDS vaccine.
Ok, first of all, an *HIV* vaccine (AIDS is a syndrome, not a virus) is NOT akin to what they are talking about here. Although the article is woefully unsourced, the drug they are talking about is probably what they call a Fusion inhibitor. It basically keeps the virus particles on an HIV viron from interacting with the CCR5 receptor on the outside of a macrophage cell. Normally a HIV viron would be able to shut down the cells functioning by attaching to the CCR5 and thus gain an easy target to penetrate and infect.
This drug class, while becoming more popular and good for those extremely drug resistant who are being treated with anti-retroviral meds, is not going to do anything but supress the virus a bit in it's current state in an already infected person. Once infected, you always have HIV. Fact. HIV has far to many ways to attack the body (cell-to-cell mediation, inducing an autoimmune response, etc). There is also no big trials mentioned. I'd like to know what stage theirs is in, but 40 people is NOT a big test group. It takes a much bigger one to test a drug, and even then, 'AIDS miricle drugs' don't have a great history (see AIDSVAX).
Finally, an excellent article to read on everything HIV/AIDS is Wikipedia's AIDS article. Educate yourselves, please people. If I hear one more person afraid to pick up gum cause they think 'they'll get the AIDS', i'm gonna seriously wreck up the place.

Before you're 18
I don't know about you guys, but I did some dumb things before I was 18. There are different punishments for minors for a reason, and saying "it was only a few days before he was 18" doesn't change the fact that he wasn't 18 when he wrote it. Bluring lines in the law makes a weak system.
(I'm an ESTJ, if you didn't already know)

Cell phones get beat up
I don't know about the author, but I beat the living crap out of my cell phone. iPods are different - you put them in your pocket and they stay in your pocket. Cellphones get thrown around, drop when you're fumbling to answer, and are handled far more often than iPods. If anything, a cell phone/iPod would be used more and have the potential to get more beat up.

I'm not willing to pay for it
As a college student, it goes without saying that I am against any increases in tuition...and guess what Dell 'helping out college campuses' would do to it of course. They are a pay-for service, and the college/university would have to pay for it somewhere.
I really appreciate the effort, but living off Top Ramen is hard enough. 'Giving' us this service just like they gave all Duke incoming freshmen iPods is really just passing the bill onto the students.

"Guaranteed" is a loose term these days
Absolute Software may be guaranteeing $1,000 after 60 days if the laptop is not found, but you'd be surprised what that actually means.
I used to work for a computer store. We sold scores of laptop locks; all sorts of kinds of them. The Kensington locks sold like hotcakes because they had a $1,200 "guarantee" that the lock could not be compromised. The problem, we soon found out, is that the theif has to physically cut through the lock and leave behind the pieces. As we all know, some locks can be picked with even a bic pen, and so a lot of good this "guarantee" did for some poeple. Some theives also just took the not-so-hard-to-steal item the laptops were attached too. (Lock it to a bed or desk people, please!)
No evidence to send in, no money back. I am willing to bet in this case there are similar loopholes for Absolute Software to play with.

Time progressed games
Well, the thing about MMOG is they all progress over time - either via the gaining of levels/ranks, money or plot progression.Games that are more puzzle based would do much better in the casual gamer market. Pick up a puzzle, leave it to finish for later. Text-based MUD games were great at this. Ah, the good old days of Federation...
People don't have time to go gain Exp. for 4 hours a day; the select few who do either don't have a life or don't have a job.

You know, I think it'd be to citizens' advantage not to put people on the bench that were old enough to be on cash. Consistency is what the voice of law needs, ya know? Having said that, I hope Bush puts some very old judges on to replace the leaving justices. We don't want anymore of this crap.
