Re:No, no we're not.
While I agree mostly agree with you, I think more blogs is actually a good idea. This is the free market taken to the extreme. Everybody gets a shot at it for almost no cost, but only the cream will float to the top and the crud will get tossed (eventually).
When the web first started to get popular, my home page said "99% of the internet is crap, but that 99% is different for each person." I believe this is still true and is easily applied to blogs. My own blog, The Moderate Fringe is crap to 99% of the online population, but 1% actually likes what I have to say...
Ok. ok. It's crap to 99.99% of them, but that 0.001% really, really likes it!
Would you settle for 0.0000001% can tolerate it?
One guy in Des Moines who only gets slightly nauseated?

Re:Spelling
Spelling doesn't work. The average computer user either can't spell or can't type and doesn't bother to use a spellchecker in email. I did small study on spell checking as an anti-spam tool and was somewhat disappointed by the results.

Re:Spam sucks
Pipe the subject and body to a shell script that returns the number of spelling errors (via aspell etc.).
That isn't going to work. I did a study of spelling errors in spam and legitimate email People's spelling in email messages is so bad, plus with technical jargon and/or programming terms not in the dictionary, the error rate in non-spam vs spam is not different enough to make spell checking a viable antispamming tool. You can see my results here: Spam Spell

Re:Brazil strikes back! (sort of)
It wasn't the 'tit-for-tat' that has everyone upset. It was what the ass-hat Brazilian judge said when he signed the court order, "I consider the act absolutely brutal, threatening human rights, violating human dignity, xenophobic and worthy of the worst horrors committed by the Nazis."
Comparing the fingerprinting of people visiting our country to genocide is the height of stupidity. I'm surprised the Brazillian people allow someone so stupid to be a judge. -
Re:robots.txt? It seems rather stupid to go to a webpage that guarantees you will be blocked - unless the intent is to test it. Fine with me, testing is good. Feedback is even better.
In case anyone is interested, instructions and code can be obtained here.

Re:I'm still getting pestered by Code-Red.
That gets it out of the logs, but doesn't really deal with the problem. I configured my server to automatically slap an iptables DROP on ip addresses attempting codered, nimda, and a few other exploits. It also deals with evil harvesting bots that ignore robots.txt exclusions. Because the vast majority of this crap is from dynamic ip addresses, the blocks are only temporary. Details are here.

Re:Piracy
Ok, thanks for the clarification. The quote I had attributed it to the wrong person. I'll make a note of it. Privateers of the 16tth century (but not pirates) are a bit of a hobby with me, so this was a bit outside of my expertise.
