Re:It's dead Jim, but it has been for a while.
He answered to the voters in 2004 (though apparantly not to you -- remember that you are not everybody) and the voters told him to keep doing what he was doing for another four years.
WRONG! WRONG! WRONG!
Invest 30 minutes of your life and watch this NON-PARTISAN movie:

Disclaimer: Andy Stephenson was an acquaintance of mine. I knew nothing of his political leanings until I watched this. In fact, I didn't even know he was involved with this until I watched this short film. -
Votergate the movie
Everyone concerned about the future of our electoral system, Diebold, and electronic voting machines in general NEEDS to watch this movie (available for download from the site): Votergate.tv

Re:So What?E-voting scandal? There's an e-voting scandal? That's news to me. I haven't seen it on CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, PBS, or Space.com.
Give me a break. Anytime anybody uses the term "gate" in something political like VoterGate, it's meant to invoke memories of Watergate. The sad fact is that Watergate was truly an American tragedy. Richard Nixon was a sitting President who abused the power of his office to win an election. He was an amazing individual who let the power go to his head and destroyed an otherwise great career.
VoterGate is nonsense, although I really like their "Take Action" section minus the paper ballot comment and the link to BlackBoxVoting.org. There's a lot of really useful stuff there. Perhaps if you took the time to observe an election then you'd feel better about its outcome. Better yet, lobby to get rid of the secret election so that people can directly challenge the results if they find that their vote was incorrectly counted.

Re:So What?
Um... the e-voting scandal was less than a 1/2 year ago.

Re:So What?
No kidding.
If, for some unknown reason, anyone thinks anything he said was made up, watch this video that includes a grandmother verbally walking a congresscritter through "hacking the vote database": http://votergate.tv/
It's pretty shocking just how easy it is, due to the total lack of authentication or encryption.
Irresponsible at a minimum, criminal neglect more likely. -
Re:Paper trail not enough
You know that the diebold machines use ACCESS as their "central DB"? If thats not scary, nothing is.
Probably this site has been referred to for ages during discussions of Diebold machines, but in case you are still wondering how perfect Diebold's voting machines are for either fair or unfair voting, you might want to see their movie. The cheating method shown during the demonstration with Howard Dean is so childish that you will laugh or be chilled. Hacking and changing Mozilla's stored passwords can be much more challenging for me as passwords are stored encrypted rather than in a ubiquitous database format that outsiders may be able to review AND change without breaking encryption.I don't know if Diebold has changed their system since, but I can't believe that Diebold has been claiming that the software used for voting machines is proprietary and secure. Without MS access, it makes absolutely no use.
Got democracy?

Votergate
My friend sent me this, I only watched like 5 minutes because it seemed like propaganda but take it as its worth.
Votergate - a 30 minute video about the evils of electronic voting. The gist of it was bad computer, bad. -

Re:Just me?One of the telling items is that voting programs themselves are secure. The databases are not. This link talks about it much more closely. Start reading at the paragraph that begins "On the CNBC TV show 'Topic A With Tina Brown'..."
If you watch the film on Votergate, about halfway through the film, you can watch the clip from "Topic A" where Howard Dean uses Access to easily change the database file.
Now, let's be brutally honest: How many people think that non-federal government offices (and maybe even federal offices) have IT support properly maintaining and securing the computers on the network?
How many of those machines are behind any type of firewall?
This doesn't have to be a "vast right-wing conspiracy." This could be as simple as a few kids fooling around, WarGames-style.
Now, I readily admit that I voted for Kerry. I am not saying Kerry was robbed of the election and readily accept a Bush victory if there was a fair fight.
However, was this a fair fight? Even if Karl Rove wasn't masterminding a subversion of the e-voting machines, and it was just kids (or just programming bugs) causing these errors, I would still not consider this a fair fight.
Also remember: Diebold's CEO promised to deliver Ohio to George Bush. Again, it's not a smoking gun, but it does make you start to wonder.

Black Box Voting
Please watch this free 30-minute film about black box voting machines.
We have all been scared about Diebold and other black box voting machines, and for good reason. Apparently one of the central machines from Election Systems & Software Inc. tallied 115 votes for Bush in a certain county, while another machine tallied 365 votes for that same county. Which one was right? There is no way to tell, because "it is too hard" to add a printer to a counting machine. It is not like they have been doing that for 30 years. But who needs to do a recount when the machines are infallible, right?
Most infuriating of all is that Republican Senator Hagel, the former Senate Ethics Director, resigned after admitting that he owned Election Systems & Software! That's right, the same voting machine maker that 60% of ALL VOTES in the U.S. are counted on, the same one that provably miscounted votes in Ohio and other states, and the same one that refuses to print receipts to recount these votes. No wonder legislation trying to require printers on voting machines is taking so long to get through congress when congressmen can vote themselves into office without a paper trail.
