Bad publicity is better than none. Maybe lawyers working for FedEx intentionally cited DMCA with no chance of winning the case instead of Copyright violation because they don't really care to formally take this guy to court, but just wanted to take advantage of him in order to publicize the company brand via tech news sites.
See, now the "www.fedexfurniture.com" is very well-known among bloggers, and people who heard this story will remember "ah, there was this weird story about a guy who made furniture with these boxes..." when you visit nearest FedEx station to send Christmas gifts in a year or two.
"I've lived through the Unix wars -- none of them reacted in this way," said DiDio. "It's just software. This has got way out of proportion." (emphasis mine)
I don't think she understands the nature of open source, which is much more critical to the "reactionary nature" of Linux community she is talking about. It's hard to believe that someone who "lived through the Unix wars" would make such an oversimplified statement that completely ignores differences between proprietary and community-based development models. duh.
I expect a lot of explosions. Terrible dialogue. An incredibly bad mixture of CGI and reality, the likes of which hasn't been seen since the end of Air Force One.
here's the pitch clip that was shown by Dreamworks during the recent discussion with Michael Bay. apparently the studio want the film to be very different from Bay's style, which is good.
In all fairness, that statement was about features. Not security.
huh? that was "about features?" I don't think there has been any major new features added to IE since mid/late-90's. sure, it's up to date in the auto industry's development cycle.
Grandma will still get emails like "Funnyshit.rpm" and the browser will ask if you want to install "super-search.xpi." These apps will hide themselves anywhere they can, just like they do in windows.
Do I see Gramma typing in the root password in order to install that "Fuckshit.rpm?" With all due respect, I don't think so. She shouldn't be given the root privilege to begin with. Or are you saying that she is the system admin at your home?
There are things to learn from Hollywood movies. If this professor's prediction is right, the US government should get prepared to send Dick Cheney to Mexico to save our country. I'll get myself ready to hide in library to burn books and steal condoms from a Russian ship.
movement of new asimo looks very fluid. check out him running and chasing a Japanese chick. it is incredible. this made me wonder if someone would begin using robots in the medical field in the next decade or so.
My guess is that the deal has been going on since last year, but all the media attention was focused on IBM's another *deal* with this clown, so no one noticed it until now.
Probably the charger/AC adapter is the one that caused damages on IBM's battery units. Might be design flaw, but IBM should be able to take care of it by offering replacements.
On the other hand, getting anything very recent with them is difficult. The fastest processors and best video boards are impossible to find. On the other hand, a company like Dell comes out with new models every month or two with faster processors and newer video boards and features.... This usually means crappy buggy quality. Generally, IBM is great for business, but can't cut it in the home/home-business markets. -M (emphasis mine)
huh? Fast and buggy processor for the "home/home-business" market? I don't think so.
There are not many home/soho users needing just-came-out-yesterday processors and don't-have-driver-yet ATI/nvidia card on their laptop. What you are talking about is the gaming market, where users are obsessed with Alienware laptops and results of benchmark tests on Tom's Hardware. Regular home users seldom care about specs and marketing hypes by Intel/AMD/ATI/nVidia.
I don't think the lack of extra features on iPod has much to do with its success in the market. Fewer features don't necessarily mean less complexity for users to operate. If anything, the simplicity of its interface (wheel + button) and eye-catching design have contributed to its success. Personally I want to see more variations with different features(e.g. w/FM tuner) instead of mere cosmetic make-over like "U2 Special Edition." If Apple is so confident about iPod's current feature sets, why are they introducing iPod photo?
If extra features are not necessary to attract technophobes, why are there so many "camera phones" and PDA phones available in the market? iPod has done well because it was new and unique in the market, not because Apple didn't bother to include extra features. If there are enough competitions, we'll probably see more features added to iPod sooner or later.
The recreations conducted by History Channel, etc, etc, etc. are solely for the purpose of reexamining the incident to re-discover/uncover the truth behind the assassination. Thanks so much for conspiracy theorists. The recreations are based on scientific research and for informational, if not educational, purposes only.
Games are for your pleasure. IMO, killing one of the most famous political figures who were actually assassinated won't be fun to play. The death of Kennedy is not justifiable. While killing of unethical, immoral figures is generally condoned in games, I don't think JFK is among this type of public figures.
If recreation of history can be justified unconditionally just because "it really happened," you will soon find yourself playing Hitler to conquer the entire Europe. You may find there is nothing wrong with it because it's just a game. I don't think so.
Just going out on a limb here, but maybe they're ignoring his car because its ugly?
oh well, I guess if a man living in the 18th century time-traveled to the 21st century and saw wicked concept cars at autoshows, he would probably think they are all ugly. Electric cars are still in development, and shapes of machine will be refined as the technology matures. If you continue seeing 8-wheel electric cars for the next several years you would probably start to feel that they look as they are supposed to. As for design of the body, that's subjective and depends on viewer's aesthetics, and I have to agree with you somewhat. This car is not the prettiest, but it still has a very distinctive, unique look though.
This is another electric car that's not as attractive as its specs.
... she'd just taken some pictures of herself on a motorcycle on the highway and then interspersed them with file photos of Cheronobyl's abandoned areas, then presented them as a photo diary of a trip that never happened.
and what's the big deal about it? Maybe she fooled us, maybe not. Even if her roadtrip was a lie, that won't change other facts. If this is a fake story I wish Chernobyl's accident was the one "that never happened."
Even if her story was fake and she made herself a journalist by doing so, she did a darn good job convincing the readers. Anything presented on the web as the truth can be fake or real. It is viewer's responsibility to examine credibility and authenticity of each story and make most out of it. If you can't provide facts to back up your claims to discredit her story, then your allegation, without any valid proof, can be fake as well.
Her story being fake doesn't change the history of Chernobyl or the fact the area has been, and will be, abandoned for years. If she's told us lies, it is her stupidity and lack of integrity that made her a lier. Big deal. Maybe she just wanted to be in a spotlight. We believed in her story just like we believed in the allegations of Iraq's WMD programs. I believe there are more dangerous lies than hers, even if her story turned out fake. Her "trip," whether fake or not, revealed very significant and important information about the doomed area, and that's all matters to me.
You know that the diebold machines use ACCESS as their "central DB"? If thats not scary, nothing is.
Probably this site has been referred to for ages during discussions of Diebold machines, but in case you are still wondering how perfect Diebold's voting machines are for either fair or unfair voting, you might want to see their movie. The cheating method shown during the demonstration with Howard Dean is so childish that you will laugh or be chilled. Hacking and changing Mozilla's stored passwords can be much more challenging for me as passwords are stored encrypted rather than in a ubiquitous database format that outsiders may be able to review AND change without breaking encryption.
I don't know if Diebold has changed their system since, but I can't believe that Diebold has been claiming that the software used for voting machines is proprietary and secure. Without MS access, it makes absolutely no use.
Dell’s page says that its picture is for “demonstrative purposes only”
Dell should rephrase it and clearly state that this is for "promotional purposes only" instead.
"These go to eleven."

the external hard drive you had in your bag yesterday?
Don't you think it's more convenient for you to be able to hack multiple machines over LAN? Another reason to choose Windows over Linux.

Me think she was making a lot of "friends" on Yahoo Personals using IE, without sharing her browsing history with her husband who's been busy lately.
