Re:More help is available on Objective-C
I get the impression that, as things currently stand, a port of obj-c iOS apps to android is relatively straightforward but swift will be far harder, that's obviously in apple's interests if true.
I saw this comment recently, from Dave Gilbert of wadjet eye games, which suggests that developing for iOS and getting someone else to do ports to android might be an option.Yes we do. We always start with iOS, and then send it to a company called Apportable who convert it to Android for us. The iOS port of Deception is in the works and is getting close to finished. So you will see an Android port of that reasonably soon. Epiphany we haven’t started working on yet, but we will soon!
Apportable advertise their product as objective-c for android, so presumably swift would be a no go.

Re:Not a good example
I just heard that there was to be a remake of Day of the Tentacle, that was canned. I wasn't even aware such a thing was in the works until it was gone.
:-(I still think that making all these remakes is a bit overrated. If an old game warms the heart, why not try to find out what makes it so great and make something new based on those qualities. Don't get me wrong, I love those old Sierra and LucasArts games too, but it shouldn't only be about playing those same crusty games over and over. Companies like Wadget Eye Games are doing the right thing, they concentrate on the beautiful 2D pixel art graphics and good and interesting gameplay, but they also write new stories.

Resonance
Not to spoil a good game, but Resonance is a sort of what if about how this could happen. http://www.wadjeteyegames.com/resonance.html I would say more but I don't want to ruin it. Everyone should play it if you like point and click adventure games.

Wadjet
If you like old school type games such as Monkey Island, be sure to check stuff from Wadjet Eye Games.

Re:Living in the past
If you are looking for an original adventure game title, Gemini Rue was released yesterday. It's made with the same engine and runs in the same resolution as KQ3, but rather than reusing an existing property it creates a new science fiction game world and story (though fans of the genre may find many elements that remind of Blade Runner, Beneath a Steel Sky etc.). It was made mostly by one guy, and it won the IGF student competition last year.

Re:First, make a good video game
Exactly. The first example that came to my mind was The Shivah , which not only deals with religious (Jewish) themes, but is also an engaging and playable murder mystery. I believe the developer started with an idea for a style of game he wanted to make, combined that with the story and topic, and generated many of the game mechanics based on that.
It certainly helps that it does not try to evangelize. Even though it ends up presenting an argument for a Jewish commandment I don't personally sympathize with (Jews should marry other Jews), it portrays it as one character's spiritual point of view, and helped me understand that perspective and refine my own thinking.
