Re:Heathkit has lost touch with its core users
It will run Linux just fine. This is a reincarnation of the PC-Bot from Whitebox Robotics, http://www.whiteboxrobotics.com/. It runs Ubuntu and the Player project software.

Re:MS already has robot support, MS Robotics Studi
The
.Net Robot Studio stuff is a clone of Player Project.
Andm Player has robot drivers for this platform already. Check here for more information. -
Whitebox
This is basically a repackaged White Box 914 PC Bot which is priced at over $5000... Unless Heathkit can get the price to a reasonable range, it's probably going to be out of the price range of most hobbiests. Still, a very cool gadget. Wish I had a lot more disposable income...

Re:A Lego NXT is way better
It is really cool
... http://www.whiteboxrobotics.com/ . They are very new and I remember they started taking pre-orders near two years ago for somewhere around $1000 and they struggled through many delays due to redesigns I believe. Unfortunatly they are now selling for $4000 to $5000. The community behind these can be found here http://www.914pcbots.com/community/ . It all sounded promising and I was following the progress for a while leading up to production, but I haven't checked back much to see what people have been able to do with them since the first production rolled out. -

pricing info
Their pre-order page says "Estimated retail cost on a "bare bones" platform should fall between $599 to $699."
-
Um ...
Because I really need to hug my DVD player
...
Wait a sec. "The 912 "MP3" also features fighter jet technology "video glasses" to view e-mails ..."
Ignoring the "fighter jet video glasses" for a second, isn't this some sort of jwz corollary? All home appliances expand until they can read e-mail. -
Re:What the hell is that?
And this is just plain disturbing.

I'd like it medium-brown, please
So this thing is a toaster, correct? Will it finally solve the problem that is switching between toast and Pop-Tarts? I don't want to give either of these delicious foods up and I don't have space in my dorm for two toasters set to different levels.
