    As the maintainer of whitehouse.net I can speak to this. You'd be amazed how many irate letters I get about Bush's proposal to paint the whitehouse green.

    More serious now...
    Having frequent contacts with academics in Syria, I wish to say that that country has changed a lot since the son took over.
    Unfortunately somebody has put that country in a speech and has ambitions to put democrazy there.
    I sincerely hope the smartass who said this doesn't get re-elected, and I really hope the current syrian president keeps up the good work he started once the took control of the country.

    Those who want to flame me to death or graven with troll, I don't care :-)

    There was also a rumor spreading around Europe and Russia (primarily Germany and Russia) that the White House web page had been hacked. This rumor was false; the URL reported was http://www.whitehouse.net/index2.html

    The rumor was enough to generate 4,600,000 hits in a 72-hour period that normally sees only 100,000.

    I thought it was a DDOS until I analyzed the logs. It was about 75% folks linking from email and 25% folks linking from various web based message boards. About 60% went straight to index2.html while 40% went to the home page.
