Wikinerds RSS feedsI have a site which contains some interesting RSS feeds. Here I give you a list of the most interesting feeds of my site together with direct links to the RSS file (note some of them are dynamically generated via php but probably will work on any rss reader):
- JnanaBase What's New RSS feed: This is a general knowledge base wiki, a website where everyone can write anything they want. The feed contains links to the newest articles, that may be about anything, such as music, computers, etc. A section of the wiki, called IntelliWiki, is about Artificial Intelligence and builds a database of known facts that can be read by knowledge management software. Be warned, however, that the contents of this feed are not systematically reviewed. New articles are added several times every day.
- NerdyPC What's New RSS feed: This is a wiki knowledge base about Information Technology and computers. It contains quality articles that are passed through a review process. Contents are open source news, hardware information and very soon hardware reviews. New articles are added every day or two.
- Wikinerds Portal RSS feed: This is a portal website which publishes a variety of articles on computers, science, social issues etc. New articles, which usually contain many links to external websites (and Slashdot discussions!) are added usually every 1-2 days. However, some of the posted articles are just announcements about new content in the wikis described above (as well as other wikis that I host).
Just to clarify that these are not the only RSS feeds I offer, but just the most interesting ones that have useful content. I post this message not as an advertisement, but only because I truly believe that these feeds will be interesting to you (and you asked to be informed about interesting feeds).
Note: Please do not read the RSS feeds more than 4-6 times per day because I want to keep the server utilisation low.

USA PATRIOT considered harmfulI wonder why they needed 3 years to understand that private information is not safe anymore in USA.
Obviously something needs to change. All this terror-paranoia is not normal. We, the Europeans, also suffered attacks in Madrid but we didn't pass laws like that. We didn't get mad. We do fight terror, but we do not destroy our civilisation of democracy and freedom just to catch some crazy terrorists.
I hope the USA legislators will understand that they can fight their enemies without undermining the privacy and freedom of Americans (and the world!). I believe that laws like PATRIOT aren't needed.
BTW I wrote a story with some more information here. As you can read, the probe started in May and produced a report consisted of more than 100 pages. The report was written by OIPC, a Canadian authority on privacy issues in British Columbia.

Immoral
Life is not a toy and we should not play with it. See on my blog: http://nsk.wikinerds.org/blog/index.php?p=82

computers
My computers at full load generate enough heat to warm up my room.

SoundStom petition!I have signed the petition to nVidia to bring SoundStorm back. See: http://nsk.wikinerds.org/blog/index.php?p=77
The petition has 2390 signatories and demands future SoundStorm availability from nVidia. Motherboard makers don't like like SoundStorm, perhaps because it is expensive, but nVidia should place more emphasis on what the customers want.
SoundStorm is the audio chip that was present in nForce2 MCP-T, but nForce3 and nForce4 do not have anything similar and rely on AC97.
AC97 is just not enough. If nVidia does not incorporate SoundStorm in nForce4, I think many customers will embrace the cheaper VIA

a real mac
I would prefer to have a real Mac rather than running an unreviewed emulator. A real Mac is more sexy and less messy than a PC, unless the PC runs the impressive KGX .

cultural solution
I think a cultural solution should be found. there is no need for technological or legal solutions. See this: http://nsk.wikinerds.org/blog/index.php?p=65

Re:opteron
But why Opteron, you might ask.
I would prefer an Athlon64 over an Opteron because of the extra reliability that ECC offers. If I know it well, A64 has the ECC circuit builtin, but many motherboards do not use it. With an Opteron you know that you get true ECC and also registered memory (which is SLOWER but more reliable).
IMHO reliability is more important than speed in numerical apps. You could lose months of work just because of a single bit error. Opteron is 100% realiable and has been used successfully even in supercomputers.
For an overview of Opteron models and tech, check my article here -
I have a better idea
I can code an AI web-based or IRC-bot chatting proggie to resemble my personality. So, after I die people will be able to chat with me! (?)

I can code a program to generate heat from spamIt's easy:
I have found that my computers working at 100% load 24/7 (MPriming) generate enough heat to keep my room much more warmer than the rest of the rooms here. Although this is undesirable now, in the winter it will be a bless.
I have some creative ideas on what to do with all that spam. How about a program that...
- ...will attempt to recreate a Shakespeare work from randomly selected words found in spam messages
- ...will use randomly selected characters from the spam, translated into numbers, to form pi
- ...will display randomly selected and coloured characters from the spam on the screen as a screensaver
- ...will extract all ACGT (that's DNA: Adenine, Cytosine, Guanine, Thymine) characters from all the spam, and randomly rearrange them trying to form the DNA or a large part of the DNA of some organism
- ...will randomly select characters and numbers from spam msgs to feed seeds to an RSA key generator
- a CPU-intensive combination of the above
if the program is coded in such a way to waste many cpu cycles at 100% load, it will be able to generate enough heat to warm up your room during the winter (provided the room is small and the program runs on many computers). -

Software patents? No, thanks!
RMS gives very interesting and informative talks on software patents from time to time. Recently I went to such a speech and discovered how rewarding it can be for people who want to understand better the problem with patents. (I wrote some info on my blog). People who are interested on these subjects should have a look at FSF website.
EU should never allow any kind of software patents. Such mistake would destroy the software economy and force small or mid-sized companies to spend more on legal costs rather than software research and development. Also, the patents will not protect small businesses from hungry MegaCorps (tm): These laws are made for MegaCorps, not for protecting innovation. Inventors and programmers do not want and do not need software patents; without public domain stuff you cannot build or invent something new.

Slackware = great
Slackware is a great distribution and very well-suited for custom servers and *nix fans. I have purchased Slackware CDs and have a machine in my home with Slackware 10.0. I have also met people running their small business only with Slackware. It is also a great distribution for experimentation and for learning the inner workings of GNU/Linux.
