Yahoo is in trouble
I think Yahoo has been coasting for years. If my website logs are a reflection of their popularity they are in big trouble. Google beats them at a rate of 100 to 1. On top of that their version of 'adwords' is the worst I have seen (From an ad buyer's perspective). It takes days for them to approve the ad (Google takes minutes) Then when they do approve it they change the wording - usually done by a non native English speaker! I have had my software adverts changed to include the word warez. WAREZ! They need to clean house or they will need to fire more until they do.

Are they feeling pressure?
It is interesting to see that they are starting to posture themselves in this way now. For all these years they really have not gone after anyone for patent violations - maybe that was because the going was good. Now that they have implemented all of their fancy piracy protection they need to keep others from providing alternative solutions that really are easier for a paying customer to use.
Kinda reminds me of communist Russia and their fences and guns keeping their people from leaving the country.

Re:Seems like a trend
That is why it is sick when companies like Cisco, Yahoo, and Google are complicit in the suppression of free speech. They can say all they want, but when they turn over the information that directly results in the arrest of someone they are just as guilty.

Re:2.0 isn't even out of beta yet!
Simple. The morons who can't use "Information Superhighway" anymore because we will flog them. They are looking for a new hip and cool word they can say to their friends so they can feel that they "Get it" and know what the net is all about

Re:Duh
Exactly. I think they might not have expected this to happen. But many people are just getting so damn mad they don't mind spending more money than the fines to fight these bastards. If they had their way we would not even had seen the first MP3 player. If you can remember - they tried to stop the Diamond RIO from being sold. It was the first hardware MP3 player on the market (At least popular enough for the RIAA to notice). Just think if they won that case? Would we even see the I-Pod? Or would it have kept that technology behind closed doors.

Why am I seeing post from this guy getting moderated 4/5 insightful/informative on every story, even though most of them are pretty obvious and redundant? Is this guy somehow spamming for his admin-tools website? -
It is a database people
FireBird is a database system that has been used in many projects. It has nothing to do with Firefox or any browser or email client. Just go to the website to check it out
From the website: Firebird 2.0 is the happy culmination of more than two years' efforts from a broad-ranging, truly international community of dedicated developers and supporters. It brings with it a large collection of long-awaited enhancements that significantly improve performance, security and support for international languages and realise some desirable new SQL language features. Under the surface, it also provides a much more robust code platform from which the re-architecting planned for Firebird 3.0 is proceeding.

What about dumping in rural China?
I think one of the solutions is to get companies to donate old equipment, or give it to organizations that will fix it up and give to the needy. I have seen companies trash perfectly good computers, but refuse to give them to anyone. These computers were far from useless, and could be used by grandma to get email and surf the net. I think if these type of programs were setup at companies it would reduce the level of waste considerably.
Still we need a solution to the problem of lead and other toxic chemicals leached into the soil. That makes me wonder...what happened to all the stories of businesses dumping this type of waste in rural China?
