Re:States can get serious
There was a big freak out over implementing voter ID in the city I'm in. Turns out, as expected, nobody was "disenfranchised"., so the kooks can drop this claim now.

Re:Come to Europe...
Canada doesn't have the immigration system you seem to think it has... Maybe at one point in time it did, but then 'ol Georgie Soros had a meeting with Blue Steel..

Re:What?
GP mis-remembered the number. The murder rate of aboriginal women is 3-4 times higher than the murder rate of non-aboriginal women in most western provinces (link). (So, to answer your question: per capita, compared to the same statistic for non-aboriginals.) For example, aboriginal women represent 28% of all female homocides in Alberta, and "As of November 2013, there are 19 unresolved missing Aboriginal females and 28 unsolved murders." (link).
You can find many more links online. Most of the statistics come from reports released by the Government of Canada, or by the various provinces. What's news-worthy is that, despite releasing these reports, the government refuses to actually do anything about them.

Re:Blame Canada!
And when you throw them in jail they post about their "living the good life" smoking pot and drinking $250 bottles of cognacon facebook. Of course, they haven't met up with this Canadian street gang yet.

Re:STM (Societe de Transport de Montreal)
They tried them in Ottawa, but they were too expensive to run. I'm sure emissions were down, but they couldn't break even on the additional expense.

Re:And the torment of her family and loved ones?
There is no legitimate reason to post something like this. It's disgusting and unnecessary.
It might be necessary when we get a bunch of what the Dutch call "goat-wool sock" types that will claim that Magnotta is "actually a victim himself" to visualize what we're actually talking about. The down-playing usually starts immediately after the news breaks. But when Magnotta is locked away for life there's indeed no reason to distribute the video.
If on the other hand, like the Greyhound Bus Beheader and Cannibal Vincent Lee will, Magnotta gets to go hang out at the beach, it may be time to send a reminder of what's going on.
Yes, people can redeem themselves. But when things DO go wrong, for some reason no psychiatrist or parole board is ever held to account or considered accessories to the crime.

Re:CCTV cameras scare me a bit
Actually, I am not so sure of the real value of these cameras. I mean, yes, in many circumstances they are helpful, but in all?
I'm sure these wanted criminals will soon be recognized and arrested based on the surveillance camera images...
The basic black hoodie... Thwarting millions of dollars of surveillance technology since forever -

Re:Anyone want to give details
You are not far off in being suspicious of this government body's mandate to get immobilizers installed. In theory, it sounds like a fantastic idea; in practice, it can be a disaster: Cars that come with a factory-installed immobilizer are not exempt from MPI's demands. The factory-installed immobilizers aren't accredited, MPI says, so they have to get a MPI-sanctioned immobilizer installed. Often, the immobilizers that are installed wreak havoc with the engine's electronics and/or a previously installed electronic device, like a remote starter. As one columnist put it here, this is not a simple matter of an insurance company wanting immobilizers. Something is definitely fishy about this demand and how it's being implemented.

Re:Eh?
What kind of an idiot is willing to pay however much per year to insure their car, but not willing to pay a measly $80 once-off for an immobilizer?
Personally, I would pay triple that amount for an after-market immobilizer if my vehicle was in a high-risk group. However, having read all the horror stories about shotty immobilizer installs I changed my mind. Manitoba Public Insurance is willing to fork out the cost for the install, but you're SOL if the install borks your car's electrical systems -- they won't pay for repairing the damage even if you went to an approved certified immobilizer installer.

Re:I wish that he had written this earlier.Let's look at an alternative viewpoint. I'm not a climate scientist (or a "raving looney environmentalist") but even I can see this so-called alternative viewpoint is kinda flawed; I'll paraphrase:
Global warming is caused by increased solar activity, and scientifically proven ozone depletion has nothing to do with it.
That's not an alternative view, it's just ignoring the available evidence. There's no dispute about CFC emissions (greenhouse gases) contributing to ozone depletion. Anyway, here are more "alternative" viewpoints for you, do have fun! -
GoatLover
A birthday party went horribly wrong yesterday when a goat at the Winnipeg Zoo was killed by its herd in front of the birthday girl.

I've always said, we need background checks on all goats entering the zoo! Somebody please think of the children.
