Re:My site breaks IE
Well done. Mine (xhtml1.0 strict, correct mime type) looks like total crap in MSIE. It renders perfectly in Mozilla of course..
-
Re:It's just business
Yeah, like XHTML that validates; For example I tried to redo my homepage in XML
It validates, of course, and it worked just fine in every browser I tried. You really HAVE to see it in MSIE. -
I could use the same thing..
But I don't have any money
:( So I'm using a webcam and TV card I bought for $30 6 years ago... it does the job although I think I'll move the camera out to that archway you can see, so I get better pictures next time.
Recently I got given a crappy old laptop, no battery or drives and the HDD was stuffed. I had a spare drive, it runs off 12v just fine. I've added a 802.11b card and USB webcam and it lives in my van now. I just need to add config to 'motion' so that it'll watch and store the output of the van camera as well as the mailbox one. Total cost of my security system is still almost-nothing.

Survey of spoofed addresses
Hey guys!!
I want to build a webpage that lists all sites that uses the URL spoofing thing (in funny way, in a wicked way, etc), just like the one Duckman5 posted here.
So if you know of any, please mail it to me to: aristidesp hat intercable hdot net hdot ve
Replace hat with @, and hdot with ".". Leave your name and say if you want me to tell you on when it's online.
Think of it as a survey.
See you then!!!

How does it spoof the address bar?
If you're roommate is that unwilling to change browsers when other people suggest, perhaps he's be willing to upgrade when "Microsoft" tells him to.
Just one question... how does it change the location in the address bar from (http://zcat.wired.net.nz/upgrade/) to (http://msie.microsoft.com)? Yes, I'm using IE. -
Upgrade Path
If you're roommate is that unwilling to change browsers when other people suggest, perhaps he's be willing to upgrade when "Microsoft" tells him to.
I've sent that page to a few people now, and the responses are pretty amusing. It redirects IE users to a spoofed MS Update page for Internet Explorer that offers Mozilla for download as the "update" for IE. -
The solution is MS Mozilla
For an example of this spoofing bug in action, wired put together a lovely example at http://zcat.wired.net.nz/upgrade

MSIE users should check out this KB article
-
Why bother?
Sure, you might be able to trick someone into clicking on a PDF where they wouldn't trust an exe, but if the page is convincing enough you can probably get the user to just run the exe directly anyhow.
If you're using Internet Explorer, you should definately upgrade as soon as possible!

Re:last photo from Spirit
Nah, I think this guy had something to do with it...

Re:Solution
I suggest using the official Microsoft patch?
(OK, not really the official MSFT patch since there isn't one yet; my link demonstrates the bug by providing a Mozilla download on a msft-parody download page, complete with microsoft.com url..)
(Yeah, I know.. I'm an attention-whore..) -
Re:Let's be honest
There's a patch for that vulnerability here

"F"
Below expectation. Needs to try harder

Re:IE6 users..
Still using IE6? upgrade! [wired.net.nz]
You are a god! This is the most awesome web-hack ever. If you were evil, and I'm sure that I am, you could do some serious damage with this IE6 flaw. Its going to be getting a lot of hits from people I'm sending the link to. Muahahaha. -
IE6 users..
If you're running Internet Explorer, you can upgrade to Mozilla 1.6 here
(If you're not running IE, you won't see anything. My redirect exploits the ^A bug and uses IE conditional comments to make it look like an official MS page for downloading Mozilla) -
Re:Why Should It Be Open Source??
My point exactly.
Give each person a randomly unique number when they turn up to vote. Have them enter the number with their votes, check that it's valid, and record both.
After the election, make all the votes available. Everyone can check the totals, and anyone who made a note of their number can check that their vote was recorded correctly. If there's any vote tampering going on, everyone who's vote got tamperd with will KNOW, not just suspect, that the election was rigged.
My full rant on the topic is at href="http://zcat.wired.net.nz/evote/
