Tux flight sim.
I was at the Seattle Museum of Flight this summer and noticed that one exhibit was a hanggliding simulator where you had to follow another penguin pilot in for a landing. The other pilot appeared to be none-other-than 3D Tux.

Re:Ads are temporal polutionIf it's practical for your system, why not try squid_redirect? It's easy to set up, and you can block/redirect any number of URLs so that you (almost) never see banners or advertising images again. It comes with a pretty good list of URLs, and adding to them is just a regex away...
Yes, I know that some people might consider this to be "stealing" content from site, where "payment" is the viewing of banners, but I can live with that
:) NZ is a long way away as the IP flies. You only notice how many of these there are around when you block them with a nice image of tux or similar.

Re:There is no Linux version.
Well, although it's not very educational, Stephen Baker is working on Tux: A Quest for Herring, a Mario64-esque game. I mention this because he uses his kid as his primary beta-tester.

Shouldn't it be based
Shouldn't it be based on the history of tux?
Think we should call it Soh (Stuffed on Herring)? :) -
Re:Games? Free?
Uh, there are several Free (as in GPLed) game projects going on right now.
WorldForge - Massively Multiplayer RPGs ala Ultima Online. They've published a proof of concept demo and are working towards a playable Game.
TimeCity - not one of my personal favorites of an idea, but they seem to have something going. Just recently published some network code.
Tux: A Quest for Herring - 3D game ala Mario 64 or Gex. Has a couple of playable levels.
Crystal Space - Ok, not a game, but a LGPLed 3d game engine.
And that's just off the top of my head. I'm sure there are several Free (as in GPL) projects out there that are just waiting for you to come running. :)

Re:How old does that make Tux?According to http://www.woodsoup.org/~sbaker/tux/doc/ (I don't know anything about that site) the idea of Tux was born in early 1996 on the linux-kernel mailing list (http://www.uwsg.indiana.edu/hypermail/linux/kern
e l/9605/subject.html).
The real (live) Tux was adopted 1997-01-27 (http://penguin.uk.linux.org/).

Re:I propose a different goalI don't even think there are any mainstream titles that fit this (for the PC, anyways; there are lots of console games that would work).
That being said, I realised that I was wrong: Tux: A quest for herring will probably match up properly when it's finished, as the author's aiming for a Mario64-esque game. I personally haven't played it, but it might be what you're looking for, and what's more, it's Free Software!

A better link
Posted by OGL:
Ugh...I submitted that link on March 15, and it's no longer on the Linux Game Tome. A better link would be this one. Happy /.'ing.
