World Cyber Games Come To A Close
GamePolitics reports on the results from the World Cyber Games, held in Singapore this year. The U.S. didn't come out badly in the medal count, with the Ryans taking the gold in Halo 2. From the article: "At the closing ceremony, Dr. Lee Boon Yang, Singapore's Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts said, 'Digital games as part of the whole entertainment and media ecosystem is big business and a growing contributor to the global creative economy. We are therefore proud to be the host country of such events as they serve to reinforce Singapore's position as a regional hub and gateway to Asia.'" -
World Cyber Games Competition Begins
TecnaDigit writes "The World Cyber Games, hosted in Singapore, begins today. Yesterday was the opening ceremony, welcoming over 700 national finalists from 67 countries. Tournaments of famous multiplayer games will be held from the November 17th to the 20th. In addition to these tournaments, there are also bands, sponsor events, and a game developer conference. Amid fanfare fit for actual world-class athletes, five Americans with really quick fingers took home the gold medal in the popular "Counter Strike" competition of the World Cyber Games championships, capping five days of intense gaming by the world's elite." The US team came away with two golds and a bronze, third overall. Congrats also to South Korea, second overall, and the Netherlands who came in first in the medal tally. World Cyber Games 2004
prakslash writes "Some 700 players from 72 countries are competing for $400,000 in prizes at the World Cyber Games 2004 in San Francisco. The 5-day tournament is being held for the first time outside of S.Korea. The players, some of who are national champions in their own countries, will be battling against each other in games like Unreal Tournament, Counter Strike, Need for Speed, FIFA 2004 and Halo." -
World Cyber Games 2003 Results
jester42 writes "The quasi-olympics in eSports just took place this last weekend in Seoul, Korea. 600 players from 55 nations competed in 8 different games to find both best players and best nations. The results of each game, and a medal tally can be found at the WCG website. Germany got the title of best nation, ahead of Chinese Taipei and Korea. The World Cyber Games are held every year, and national qualifications are followed by a final. Next year's final will be hosted by San Francisco, and will be the first time the WCG finals take place outside Asia."
