Re:Huzzah!note that before you go celebrating too much, the 1ghz speed was only stable in 2D MODE: the 3dmark score is for when they had backed off the overclock to about 880, see here

p ?p=1104977#post1104977 sampsa is asked Were you able to run any benchmarks at that speed or was that a Windows stable shot???? Anyway that is still hella fast with no artifacts. sampsa's response Just a Windows shot in 2D.so still impressive, but not what they describe

Check out the latency measurment comparision, only one panel holds it's latency throughout the range. Last I checked, 19" monitors with those panels go for around $350. -
7323.7 MHz!
Actually, the world record now is 7323.7 MHz! Still the same guy. Screenshots
-
Now at 7285.1 MHz
Someone has already clocked up an extra 150MHz!
Calculating 1m decimal places of Pi now down to 18.093s...

Re:Well..
Resellerratings allows you to search for specific products with S&H costs and vendor rating
if you enter your zip. No registration required, and they list a large number
of vendors including newegg, zipzoomfly and monarchcomputer. They also have a
neat hot deals feature on their home page (e.g. they featured a 200GB ATA Maxtor
dive for $69.99 including S&H from outpost.com a few days ago).
For the main post:
The forums on anandtech can also give you pointers on good deals; the site also has pretty good reviews for computer hardware.
If you like modding and overclocking, check this discussion and list at xtremesystems.org. xtemesystems also has a wealth of information on modding and overclocking, and the people there are very friendly and helpful.
Amazon is good for movies and bestselling books, but not for much else.
Bookpool has great prices for tech books. Also, ebay sellers sell international editions of tech books for a fraction of the price of US editions.
Finally, if you are not in a hurry to buy stuff, wait until Thanksgiving; nothing can beat Thanksgiving Day deals (both online and retail). -

Re:WrongI think you had better check this thread, "pal."
The desktop adapter has only been out a month or so, and the enabling bioses are all betas, and most people don't even have one yet. Let more people adopt the friggin' platform and the FX is dead.
Fanboy.

Re:Huge error in this "review"Clock for clock, the Dothan smokes the FX. In the Anantech review, the Dothan is clocked @ 2.16 and the Athlon is at 2.6. At equal clocks, Dothan smokes AMD.
Believe what you want, but if you want to see what the real gurus are doing, check out what what the Dothan is doing to all comers.

Re:Here's why Jobs likes Intel and not AMDI've been doing a bit of googling lately on A64 and the Pentium-M. I'm not sure it's quite that clear. Venice versus Dothan is a tough call. Overclock the Dothan and it can outperform Venice by a bit with less power to boot. But it still gets hung up on memory bandwith and floating-point stuff. I found your link to the lostcircuits article very interesting. I knew that recent 939s (from Winchester onward) were very good in the power consumption department, but I didn't know it was that good. However, I haven't found any decent evaluations of the Turion that could back up your claim for its performance and efficiency.
In any event, it doesn't matter because Apple is getting in on the future Intel CPUs which will be derived from Banias/Dothan. Here is an interesting thread on overclocking Dothan. The results make me wonder if Intel has kept it's FSB hobbled to avoid direct competition with the P4. We have to imagine Yonah or Merom will be like one of these little screamers plus dual core and a better FSB. Of course, AMD will have improved too between now and then, but if tweakers can make Dothan competetive with a cooling solution that belongs on a northbridge then I would imagine that Intel can flat out prove to Jobs just what they have coming down the pike.

AMD will hit 4GHz eventually.
AMD Athlon64 FX-55 overclocked to 4GHz.
A new FX release and we'll probably see some overclockers running stable 4GHz systems.
3GHz... the FX will hit that for sure. They're at 2.8GHz now and a new model is on the way IIRC

3.6GHz 'proof' here.
That link is to a 40K 3DMark'01 run. Here's the setup at 3.6GHz.

Re:How about performance?
>How fast can the 90 nm Athlon 64 core go before it dies?
At least 3.6GHz. That's a 130nm(? I assume) Athlon FX-53, so the 90nms will do better.
