Re:MonoTouch is more expensive than a Mac
And this doesn't include the price of phone service (a Windows Phone 7 device isn't sold as a PDA, unlike iPod touch and Archos 43, or even as a prepaid phone).
Microsoft sells phones without a service plan directly for just this reason.
Oh wait, that's the opposite of what you're saying. Anyway, go here: http://www.zones.com/windowsphonedeveloperpurchase

Easy two: Cover it!
or perhaps just covering the keyboard
http://www.zones.com/....
you could just buy a supply of them and watch them on a monthly basis or have double the amount you need and swap them monthly one using and one washing. This isn't news. This is people not thinking.--

You mean an Apple Pro Mouse
No offense to Apple, but whenever I see the StupidaMouse concept art, I keep thinking of the whole top of the mouse's case as one button. All that giving a one-button USB mouse to users who refuse to learn would keep them from doing is right-clicking.

Magneto Optical Is The Way To Go
According to this site that was linked to from Fujitsu's site magneto optical drives are nearly indestructable, they have a minimum life of 30 years (good enough for me) they don't lose their magentic properties until they reach 180C so you can spill as much coffee on them that you want. =P
The drives can be had for roughly $257 for internal IDE. I didn't shop around hard, but you can get a 5pack of 1.3GB disks for $95 that's about $0.014/MB, not too shabby. They also make high end solutions with 9.1GB disks but the drives are remarkably expensive. If I were more serious about doing backups, magneto optical would be the way to go. -

Re:Why not wireless?
you should be able to use one of these for wireless. It's an adapter that plugs into ethernet ports and turns them into wireless.

Re:MacOS is a horrible choice for SchoolsThen, once AppleWorks 5.0 gets old, the job of hunting down MacOS software (and at a decent price) can be a chore, especially when you're talking about site licenses for educational software.
Why use Appleworks? There are many other choices.
Also: Since many of the same companies that make PC educational software ALSO make it for the Mac, their same site-license terms will apply. Heck, you can even get cross-platform site-licenses from them in most instances.
Just can't find Mac edu software? Here's a few places to check:
MacConnection (educational software section)
MacZone (educational software section)
And don't get me started on the need to run Norton Utilities (or at least Disk First Aid) on a regular basis, as well as "rebuilding the desktop" and "zapping the PRAM".
Regular maintenance, just like PCs, or anything else. Though not quite as often as you seem to think.
School wants to get some DVD-based encyclopedias, out of luck there, unless you want to spend a small fortune on USB-based drives, but heck, it's a Mac, school outta be used to spending large amounts of money by now.
Just how much greasy-fingered-kid handling do you think DVDs can handle? Any self-respecting institution is going to have these things on the server, not being tossed about the lab.
