    truth is, there's no better/more affordable/effective way that we know of, for J. to reach other J.'s &/or their respective markets.

    that is dissolving their ability to continue their self-centered evile behaviours.

    Yes, it will. I like the idea of finally seeing Return of the King in at least 1280 resolution.

    Why, yes.

    Absolutely. You're getting an increase of over three times in resolution, and the disk space allows for much better compression--no more grain and compression artifacts.

    Oh yeah, I forgot. Someone worked a way round the bogus encryption and region coding and DVD-player vendor lockout last time round, so we've all got to dump our perfectly good DVDs and our DVD players and throw more money at film studio execs and consumer hardware manufacturers. Silly me.

    DVDs suck. Theater resolution is over 1280. You're missing tons of detail in your blurry, ugly DVDs. Play any DVD on a sharp television or on a computer monitor. It's embarrassing. HD-DVD (or Blueray) need to come and soon. DRM isn't the only reason for this--new DVD specifications were already being worked on before the whole DeCSS fiasco.

    Stop being so damned paranoid. Unless you like watching movies at 480. In that case, NOBODY'S FORCING YOU TO BUY A DAMN THING.

    Dude, the key word is fled... They fled to avoid other peoples religious beliefs from being imposed on them. They didn't flee the godless hoards. I believe it was the (mostly) Protestants (but included a crap load of other small religious groups.) fleeing the Cathlics and the Church of England...

    Groups like the mormons seem to be more what you are talking about. They went to a place where they could set up their own religion based state, and make everyone there obey.

    With your great education have you even looked at education beyond your own borders? Do you think other governments aren't capable of recognising the place for rewarding success? Do you think governments are incapable of intervening when they see failure?

    In the UK there's no obligation to go to your local school, you can pick any as long as you have the grades to get accepted - and others in Europe can pick one of our universities too. Yet in the US if you don't have the necessary cash you may well be forced to stay in state and go to a local school rather than explore the best that should be available to your academic ability.

    I would still take a mediocre private education over the best our Government can offer, thanks.

    Ever head of Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, Glasgow, Edinburgh? If your government can't offer better perhaps it's time you elect a new government? Free market education determines that access is based as much on wealth as it is on academic ability. That's plain wrong.

    Here's how it is in the real world: This school scammed people, and now they'll pay the price. Their behavior is NOT being rewarded, either in profits or the whole staying out of prison thing. If capitalism means being greedy and earning money, then the people running this school are bad capitalists. I'm pretty sure they won't be making much money as a direct result of their actions.

    The same thing happened to Enron. They did dumb stuff, now they're out of business. The market fixed the behavior. That's what happened here. Simply because A SINGLE INDIVIDUAL school has acted unethically and illegally random zealouts like you are going to start screaming for more Government intervention.

    I would still take a mediocre private education over the best our Government can offer, thanks.

    Capitalism isn't utopia, but socialism is so much farther from utopia it isn't funny. Taking random and fairly isolated incidents like this and citing them as an example of the failures of capitalism is borderline retarded. Especially seeing as how the U.S. is regulating more and more of our daily lives every day. We're hardly capitalist over here anymore. State capitalism would be a better phrase.

    Why do I have to be godless or not have children - if I believe that we all have different morals and I don't want other people pushing their morals onto my children?

    My TV has an off button. And I am teaching my children the truth about the whole picture - not just one narrow sanitized one. My children are learning things like - there is nothing inherantly evil in the word "fuck", however there are times and places where using the word "fuck" is inappropriate. Or they are learning that a naked breast can be a beautiful thing, but a War is always a terrible thing.

    But I must be a terrible parent, and godless heathan because I don't want your morals legislated onto me and my own...

    (disclaimer: naked breasts' beauty are dependant on the owner of the breasts and the eye of the beholder)

    Pretty sure his point was that Christians "vote Christian" without really understanding that the people they're electing on these principles usually act in very un-Christian ways. It's useful to quote scripture at Fundies (if you know what you're getting into) because it throws them off -- they don't expect any godless heathen babyeating liberals to have actually read the Bible. In my case they'd be right, but the point still stands, damn it.
