Do you really want me to post more evidence supporing my claim? It seems rather unnecessary. I am fully opposed to china's gvt, as I'm sure others are too. HOWEVER, many people take all of the negative aspects of their gvt and attach it to the people.

How do you distinguish a victory for humanism from a victory for Christian society? Why is humanism assumed by you to be godless? That certainly isn't an inherent property of humanism. And in what way has what you think "humanism" is been a success? Or at least a succuss compared to Christian civilization?

I didn't say this was bad, but charging that he was a 'godless communist' or some such is not wholly without foundation. Just mostly ;) But I can guess as to where they'd be getting the idea from.

Despite what you may have heard from Hemos during one of his drunken rampages, Slashdot is not truning into "News for objectivists. Stuff that's rationally self-interesting".

To be honest, what I'm trying to say here is that you and your fellow capitalists are no longer wanted! You have failed before to secure a system of secure economic and material growth, so instead you resort to bashing those who don't share your flaws economic and philisophical beliefs. The fact is, objectivists deny what is the ultimate source of Truth: the Bible in favor of those from the false prophet of Satan, Ayn Rand. She came from a godless communist contry, and never quite dropped the pretense of state-enforced atheism and social welfare as the defining point of a socio-political system. This, my friend is where you fail.

While I usually refrain from ad homien attacks, you are quite frankly ignorant of all the issues involved in such an issue as the current DVD topic. What is needed is increased support from the free market, as opposed to the more "open-source", socialistic methods proposed in your response. And quite frankly, your notion of god needs to be removed entirely. In the end, it is only the state that can decide what is best for it's citizens, and I believe that the U.S. has already rejected your ideas in favor of more the more rational system of imprisoning corporate dissenters. Ayn Rand would be proud, but socialists like me are very pissed. Very, very pissed.

China is a long way from being fascist, as any decently well-educated fascist will be only too happy to explain to you before he beats your head into a soft, pulpy mass. China is a totalitarian civil-service bureaucracy, but you can't make catchy slogans out of a phrase like that. "Godless totalitarian civil-service bureaucrats!" See? 1) You did not present a viewpoint. You presented a baseless accusation formed on a paranoid delusion. See a psychiatrist.

2) The topic is not of religion. You chose it to be so, and when you were rebuffed, you respond with cries of persecution that still nauseate me.

Note that I am not supporting Jon Katz in any fashion. His articles were a series of rants about nothing. However, you take a minor literary item, and turn it into a Crusade on Slashdot. You are right however. Katz did not mention religion. Nor did he menton financial condition, bodily appearance, mental condition, etc. Should Katz have included all people of any age, race, gender, religion, height, weight, eye color, mental condition, financial condition, political power, no matter how many pets in their household?

Note that it is illegal to discriminate on age, race, or gender. It is not illegal to discriminate on a basis of religion or anything else.

We all discriminate. When we go shopping, we choose a newspaper stand that has cheaper prices, a shopping line with less people. Our daily lives and interactions contain discriminations of all sorts, and it is routinized so that it doesn't even register any more.

Maybe Jon Katz is atheist. Maybe he is anti-Christian. In the end, it doesn't matter. Religion isn't the question. It never was. The dominant atheist paradigm? It's there. It's the acceptance that everyone has different beliefs, and that this is not a forum for discussion of religion (and yes I am aware of the hypocrisy of the last statement). Slashdot is godless because we choose not to talk about it.

And in the end, your cry of persecution is pitiful. There are real people outside of your theocratical little world. And guess what, they aren't living in nice little houses with white picket fences. They die for their beliefs, and it isn't a martyrdom they enjoy. Suffering is real, and your petulant cries of persecution belittle the true victims out there.

I really have nothing left to say to you. I'm not even sure if you're still reading at this point, but take a deep breath yourself, take a look around, and then wake up.

NOBODY moderated it up. The Slashdot majority is too blind to their own prejudices to consider other viewpoints.

I have a karma bonus, and that's how I posted it at 2. But now I'm back to posting as an A.C. because Slashdot has NO ROOM for viewpoints that disagree with the dominant atheist paradigm.

Slashdot has to be one of the most lost, Godless places on the Internet, and the Internet is the most lost, Godless society on earth. The Internet isn't all candy and roses, it has a dark side as well, it provides a congregating place for the "elite" atheist folks out there who think they're cool, a place where they can insult people of all religions and beliefs other than their own.

"Abuse of Freedom" indeed. Very clever, Jon Katz, twisting the truth to fit into the dominant atheist paradigm, which is a lie.

There's always gonna be an "enemy." You can either live your life inside a prison of your own making, afraid of your own shadow and jumping at every sound, or you can get out there, explore and live.

Which do *you* choose?

You're on to something here - but why limit our options to just the look/feel/sound? Why limit our filters to just the kind of news we want to hear about?

I want my personal digital newscaster to slant the news according to my desires. Example: Engage Rush Limbaugh slant and instead of "A new tax is proposed..." you get "The evil godless commie bastards are planning once again to take more of your hard earned work to spend on their pointless and useless social programs...".

All kinds of slants could be possible. I'd like a Conspiracy slant - some algorthym that links seemingly disparate stories by way of some sinister "them" connection.

Of course "random" slant should be available, just to (1) make things more interesting and (2) broaden the mind. Perhaps it would be a bad idea to change slants too often, a different slant on every story would give me a headache fast.

Things are not all that they seem! Yes, the east coast liberal elites self-style themselves as liberal - but you know what?! That's just what they call themselves. At heart most of them are just as narrow-minded and religious as we are, their religion is founded upon a falsified perspective of scientific "progress". They are bigots just like us - it's the attitude that really counts.

And furthermore, they may talk about things like multiculturalism and gay-rights and feminism: but when it really comes down to the wire, you and I brother know that opposition to those things are just an epiphenomenon (means an associated, non-causal result) of an uneducated, mistreated under-class looking for people to hate. And guess what! Most of those "liberals" aren't going to change the existence of that class, so it'll all go along as usual. They'll have their religion (a debased version of the really threatening thing - science) and we'll have ours (a debased version of Christianity).

Don't you see the advantages of that? We'll be able to insult each other and never actually deal with the real issues. They can feel smug that they are in possession of the truth and that they're good, we can feel that they're evil. Isn't it perfect?! God forbid brother that there should be a serious attempt not to trivialize. But don't worry, they won't, they're just like us!>

...at least I did. I used to work in Holland, (lived in South Haven) and I think I can safely say that I have never seen a community so tightly puckered at both ends as Holland,MI (more so at the Zeeland end). I fled the cold of that area (climatic and social) for Phoenix. The only four things that redeem Holland at all are the beaches, the academic excelence of Hope college, the Industrial Wings at the Prime Time Lounge (over which wings I first learned of Linux), and the work of our friends at the Geek Compound (whom I hope don't get too offended at me dinging their city, but ya gotta' admit...).

I am afraid that a large part of fighting what is going on there will have nothing to do with the danger of porn, (it was pointed out that there doesn't seem to be a problem with that) nor with the danger of censorship. I am afraid that the problem will be a group of people who don't understand what they are doing, rallying around something marketed as "a nobel Christian cause to stop a Bad Thing" (Bad Thing being that nasty internet stuff that can harm our children). Anyone who opposes this nobel cause is then some kind of satanic spawn, and if the godless ACLU (or any "Outsiders") get invlolved, yikes, look out.

My experience with this community is that once the debate becomes the Reformed Church vs. the godless hordes, the original issue gets trampled. Which in this case is too bad, it's an important issue.

Arguing with the "GPV" zealots is a complete waste of time. He will simply quote the first part, where you agree with him, and ignore the second part, and the "tradeoff" part. Stir in some "rms is a godless communist oppresor" and s/GPL/GPV/g and you've got yourself a post.

It's time for us stop using the verb to rip. It looks very, very bad, because anybody on the outside isn't going to hear "copy" or "use" or anything of that order. They're going to hear "to rip off". Religion established for humanity that there was nothing that it could not explain. It's all just a matter of 'listening to God'. It's just a matter of serving God the right way.

Then science came along and proved that there is more to this universe than religion can explain.

Then science said that there is nothing in the universe that science cannot ultimately explain. It's all just a matter of getting the numbers and theories down right.

Then God got sick and tired of this bickering and invented String Theory.


Jon Katz might be wise to realize that the best wisdom is to talk to God while mastering the microscope. If we master science without talking to God, we'll obliterate ourselves. If we ignore science, we're ignoring God and we will be obliterated by a disease, or by a comet. If we listen to God, however, we will master the gravitons, skip across galaxies on tachyons, and we will ultimately discover that science is God's law, not the proof of a godless universe.
