Do BeOS v5 And LILO Conflict With Each Other?

You can give it it's own partion which speeds up booting. There is a programme in Beos5 with lets you transfer the hole kabang to it's one partion. For lilo you do than the same as with windows other=/dev/hda* label=BeOs
When you plan on installing a new OS you should *always* make a backup copy of important files as well as a bootdisk in case you somehow screw up the boot loader.
I know this doesn't answer your question but I hope this advice is of some value to you anyway.
No, BeOS will not conflict with LILO, it is not even seen by LILO. BeOS is stored in a chunk of hard drive space within the FAT partition, kind of like a virtual OS. When you run BeOS, it references this location, shuts down Windoze and boots from this space.
There is also a loader for Linux.

How do you know he meant RedHat and not Mandrake or any other 6.1 distributions?

Please note that he said "May", as in, it may be Redhat, or Mandrake, or SuSe, or another distrobution, but ....

You may have Red Hat 6.1 on there, but I doubt Linus plans on releasing Linux 6.1 until at least 2014 at the pace they get released...

If you decide you need more space for BeOS, or you get tired of loading Windows first, you can install BeOS onto its own partition (I believe that The BeTips Server has information on how to do this, and boot into it directly. There are two ways of doing this:
Provided you know how to make a partition, etc. neither of these methods should result in lose of data either. I use bootman as my main bootloader, and it works fine for loading Windows, Linux, OpenBSD, and BeOS. I installed BeOS after the other three OSes, and I had no problems with lose of bootloaders for anything. Of course, LILO also works at doing all of these (if I select Linux, it loads LILO where I can select any of the others instead of Linux again if I want to).
If you have important information on your Windows partition, you should A) back it up, and B) make a rescue disk. If you accidently wipe the MBR somehow and *NEED* to get to your work, you can always do an "disk /mbr" on your Windows partition, and that should allow your computer to boot straight into Windows. With Linux, you can always boot off of a resuce floppy (usually, at the LILO prompt, you type the kernel name, ie "vmlinuz" and then "root=/dev/hdwhatever drive and partition") and just re-run LILO to return the MBR to its previous state of Linux and Windows co-operation.
Are you from the future or something? There's no Linux 6.1, there's a Linux 2.2.14 and a Linux 2.3.99, but not Linux 6.1. Tell me, what is it like in the 2020's?

You shouldn't experience any problems. I installed BeOS 5 to it's own partition (using the installer) and then created a LILO entry. It works flawlessly.
Why you put LILO in the Winblows partition is beyond me, but installing BEOS will not do anything to it. Since it's just a large Windows file (free version, anyway), nothing could posssibly happen under normal cercumstances. Note: While BeOS is great for killer A/V, it's kind of a crappy general purpose or server system. If you're just playing arround, like I recently did, you'll most likely find that it's medeocre for anything but multimedia.

The easiest way to use the BeOS5 free version in your situations would be to download the linux tarball from ftp.be.com. What it is, is an image of the BeOS filesystem and already has on the applications and such installed. It also comes with a boot disk image which you can use to load it. Since you'll be using a boot disk, lilo won't even load. Much easier than booting into windows everytime you wanna play with BeOS.
www.redhatisnotlinux.org I think whoever wrote this message should check out that Red Hat is not Linux, it is a distrobution of linux with applications. Using Linux 2.2.14 would be more suiting

BeOS runs just like a windows program ( at least the personal version does), so there is no need to adjust you LILO for anything... The professional version runs on an independant partition, but you can adjust your LILO with almost no problems... just open the file lilo.conf, and insert the BeOS partition (ex.: dev/hda*).
