3COM's Ergo Audrey Hacked
It looks like the 3COM Ergo Audrey hacking scene is finally taking off. A guy named Sowbug has hacked the 3COM Ergo Audrey to shell. He has pictures of it here(1) and here(2). Another site has opened to cover this hack, here(3). And of course the Linux Hacker messageboards are covering it quite a bit.
This is not a hack nor is it Linux. It is a hoax. This is simply Audrey running a shell inside of a QNX Photon window.
Which is all he ever claimed it was.
timothy should probably have mentioned that it runs QNX since a lot of us have never heard of the thing before now and he did mention the "Linux Hacker messageboards".

Don't give Razorfish that much credit, they couldn't design something half this good. All they did were screen layouts, some graphics and lavish invoice design (with lots of zeros)

As timing goes it doesn't get much better than Roger Sanchez's new seasonal single.
'Another Chance' is tailor made for summer and, more particularly, Ibiza.
Floating in on a tide of warm strings and synth chords, a conga and snare pattern ripples under the surface as the vocal hook heralds a sun burst of kick drum and ascending bass lines.
Sanchez's formulae is honed to perfection, under-pinning the plaintive sample, taken (as Giant from ride.no points out) from Toto's 'I Won't Hold You Back', with warm, melodic, emotional, but thoroughly dance-floor-friendly vibes.
It retains the soulful characteristics associated with US house, as well as some, erm, glam hand-bag elements, but the production here also takes note of European commercial values, maximising its utility in all manner of DJ sets.
Clearly a contender for the 'Stardust' 2001 title, it's already been buzzing around the white isle, meaning you'll get another chance to hear this again and again and again over the summer.

Slashdot is a lame club for hacker wannabes. Rob Malda uses a pirated copy of Windows 98 to do all of his Perl "programming," and CowboyNeal (the only real Linux user of the bunch, who is l337 on Red Had 5.2) copies the files over to their VA Linux x86 toys... I mean PCs... I mean "servers" (giggle). If you want proof of this, check out any of Malda's USENET postings from as recent as 1999. Now look at the headers... Outlook Express, indeed. That was before Malda really understood complicated In-tar-nat things like "headers" and "packets" and "HTML" and such. These days, CowboyNeal has setup Jeff's Exchange server (also pirated, and running on a pirated copy copy of NT4SP3) to forward all of Malda's mail and news through Pine and GNUS in order to help Malda save face.
Also amusing is that while Netcraft reports that CmdrTaco.net is running Linux, the only Linux box that Malda owns is a Cobalt Qube, which functions as his site's firewall. CmdrTaco.net itself is served off of the same NT4 box that runs Jeff's Exchange server, and until three months ago, FrontPage metatags were visible on some of Malda's pages.
Also amusing is ascd, Malda's only attempt at real programming. Ascd is a "dockable AfterStep CD player" which Malda wrote for his "programming certification" class at ITT Technical Institute, where the bums of the future learn how to install Windows and write "Hello, world!" in Delphi. Since Malda has never used Linux or AfterStep before, and since he accidentally burnt up his copy of TCPL in the "coffee bong," ascd was a complete failure. Even if you are able to compile that trash, it segfaults when you try to run it.
He failed the class, and lost his $250 deposit.
Malda never attempted any real programming again. Today, he has accepted that PERL (Penis-Eating Rocks, Losers!) will be his only forray in the world of computing.
This whole site is a scam. I love it when Malda admits to owning a Windows box, which he uses "only" for playing games. (If you don't believe this, go back and read all of Taco's articles about The Sims and Diablo II.) And the best part is that, even if the truth were to get out, Slashdot would still be very popular. Less than 1% of Slashdot's readers have even seen a non-Windows box before.
